The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. PS3 Global:
Gap change in latest month: 575,616 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: 7,734,423 – PS4
Total Lead: 17,616,065 – PS4
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 38,557,196
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 20,941,131
February 2016 is the 28th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale. The gap increased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 28th month on sale by 575,616 units in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 17.62 million units.
Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 38.56 million units in its first 28 months, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 20.94 million units.
