Analyst: PS4 Will Sell More than 100 Million Units Lifetime - News

Analyst firm DFC Intelligence predicts the PlayStation 4 will sell more than 100 million units worldwide in its lifetime. The PlayStation 4 would be just the 6th platform in history to reach the milestone.
The PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS have sold over 150 million units, while the Game Boy, original PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii have sold more than 100 million units.
DFC added that PlayStation 4 sales in 2015 reached its forecast, while the Xbox One and Wii U fell short. It also expected digital game sales to continue to improve and annual games revenue on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to reach $20 billion by 2019. Half of that figure will be digital sales.
"DFC believes Nintendo is still a major player to watch in the game market but thinks that the company may not be ready to launch a new game system at this time,"said the firm. "The other area to watch is the potential entry of new companies in the game space, especially Amazon, Apple or Google. These are all major factors that have resulted in a lowering of expectations for all manufacturers except Sony.
“Of course, virtual reality (VR) is currently the big news item and its potential impact was examined. Overall VR is not expected to have a big impact on the console market. Sony has the biggest VR play with the PlayStation VR but that is only one of several reasons why the PlayStation 4 is expected to be the leading game system over the next few years.
"VR could actually help the PS4 expand its audience over the next few years but it is currently not crucial to the overall forecasts as DFC is taking a conservative attitude towards the market."

I'm really happy that this site isn't so fanboy than other gaming sites and the majority of users actually make positive comments, if this news would have been posted on PC or Xbox forums it would probably receive many negative fanboy comments.
I like how you mention that and yet it's legit ok to not say anything positive for PC let alone praise that platform on here. As far as I can see on here this site favors consoles more than PC so it's hardly fair in any way shape or form.

All PC elitist do is shit on consoles. Of course pro console players will be hard on PC. The PC commmunity did it to themselves by always saying the PC is the only place to play, as if we did not already know PC will always be ahead of consoles.
I see plenty of console folk shit on PC users all the time around multiple sites and especially on Youtube. For years people have claimed far more time that PC gaming is dead/dying that it;s become an actual meme, I've known this since high school back in the late 90's/early 2000's and throughout my college years and it always stems from people who just dislike the platform or refuse to understand it let alone acknowledge it;s pros.
Don't lay the blame all on PC players by claiming they brought this all on themselves, that sounds entirely short sighted and damning. plenty of console folk claim their system is "the place to play", hell plenty do on this site for PS4, even Sony ads claim the same despite it being entirely subjective.
PS4 is best console if you like their exclusives and want the best performance from multiplat games on console. Also is a good multimedia console.
X1 is best if you like X1 exclusives AND don't have a gaming PC. Multiplats are available here as well, though most of the time with slightly lower performance than PS4. X1 is the best multimedia console.
PC is best if you like MMOs or RTS games. Most major 3rd party titles make it here too with the BEST performance available, though some do not make it like Destiny and many japanese games. If you want the most you can get performance wise and don't mind missing out on PS4 and WiiU exclusives, PC is the way to go. Also best multimedia machine period.
WiiU is good at playing Nintendo games...nothing more nothing less.
These are the facts, but from my experience console gamers come to terms with this before PC gamers do. I don't speak for everyone, but from my experience PC elitist are the most annoying fanboy of all (though all fanboys suck in my eyes).
I was talking in terms of best platform over everything else, not best console. I have seen actual folk on YT claim PS4>everything else like it's some solid fact, just because you haven't seen people say that doesn't mean they didn't say anything.
Most PC multiplats I've seen tend to do better, not worse than PS4, unless you focus specifically on ye old AK or another port job, that always seems to be the main focus in these sort of discussions.
PC being the best at two genres only is just another misconception, it;s like saying all PC has is MMO's and Mobas and there are people on here who definitely like to think that way.
What about console folk missing out on PC and X1 games?, why does this have to be some made up one way street where one side greatly matters and the other doesn't seem to matter at all (because so far that's is what is being implied here for PC).
Not all are facts though, that's you just laying the blame on PC folk and saying they deserve everything that's coming to them while also laying out the discussion to just long windily say "PC gaming just sucks, console gaming is better, PC folk brought it upon themselves, end of story".
I find both annoying tbh but I find ignorance and self blaming to be a lot more annoying. If all suck in your eyes then see them as equals, no ened to claim console guys have done nowt while PC dudes brought everything upon themselves and are somehow the worst of the worst, that leads to no good discussion here at all.
Re-read my comment son. I never said it was the best at two types of games, I was pointing to the exclusives that people tend to get on the platform. I already said PC had best performance in all multiplat games that make it over. I stopped reading right there. If you are not going to comprehend what I write and try to put words in my mouth when I specificly state that this is based off of my experience, I am not wasting time trying to discuss it with you.
And I never said console gaming was better, I said they get flammed based on the mentality the project (dame as any other fanboy, but worse). Again, based on my own experience.
Then I guess there is no further reason to discuss because you seem to think it's a solid fact that PC plays bad at all multiplats along with still not admitting being wrong with the self blame game.

Would be weird if it didn't. Sony raised the bar for what a console should sell. Each generation starting with the PS1 has had 1 100m home console.

That was just some fanboy comments as usual, the PS4 sold even faster than the PS2 on its era, and I don't see the dead anywhere in the near future. Some people still don't want to realize that there are millions of people out there that prefer playing on consoles rather than on PC for whatever reason they have, same thing vice-versa. The gaming industry is beautiful, but the fanboys are the ones who ruins it.

I'm not sure if it will reach that nr. Mobile and digital formats were not around in the time of the PS2.
But still the PS4 sold even faster at launch than the PS2, and I think the PS4 sold more units as of now nearly 3 years later of its launch than the PS2 3 years later of its launch.

wii or any nintendo console dont have the same leg as a playstation console. If ps1, ps2, ps3 sold more than 85m, there is no way ps4 is gonna sell 80m.

playstation history is more than enough plus do I have to remind you all the competition ps3 faced last gen? high launc price, high competion against the popular wii and a cheaper xbox console that also got popular due to kinect. if the worst selling playstation console with all the bad press sold more than 85m, then ps4 will easily do it without any competition. if the only thing you got as a argument is Wii then I have to remind you ps4 isnt a nintendo console.
Telling me how different hardware performed in different market scenarios is no argument.

Well the PS4 shares components with PCs so we can group their numbers together. You can also pick up the PS4 and carry it around, so we can group in all smartphones as well because the PS4 is now mobile. The PS4 has buttons and a design, and so do shirts, so we can group those together since technically they are the same things. All in all I will not be surprised if the total ends up at 2 billion +
