by William D'Angelo , posted on 17 June 2015 / 4,386 ViewsThe Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign has reached its funding goal of $2 million and it has now been confirmed that the Kickstarter was created in order to gauge how much demand there was for the sequel.
Now that the game has successfully achieved its funding goal Sony's Gio Corsi has announced that the PlayStation team will help develop the game.

Corsi said the following:
"If the fans come in and back it, then absolutely we're going to make this a reality. Sony and PlayStation is definitely a partner in this game and it's going be run through Third-Party Production. We're going to help Ys Net get the game done. We're going to be partners on it the whole way."
The estimated launch for Shenmue 3 on the Kickstarter page is December 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and the PC.

Here's to hoping that they'll add a stretch goal for a physical PS4 release.
I believe they will. No doubt.
As Sony are behind it, there will be a PS4 physical release.
Test it's popularity by getting fans to fund it? Sounds good......
I reckon Sony will make it exclusive.
So Sony has the money to fund this game, but the Kickstarter was used to test its popularity? I think the reaction from the live audience would have been enough to tell how much people were excited.
Other consoles stretch goal, please ;) I'm a little salty about the way Sony abused the crowd-funding community here. I won't be getting it for my PS4.
Don't play it then, no loss.
