The Witcher 3 PC Sales Totals and Platform Split Revealed - News

by Jared Katz , posted on 11 June 2015 / 14,894 Views

We found out a few days ago that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 4 million copies in the short period since launch. Today, GOG revealed the PC sales split for the title.

In total, the third instalment in the series sold 1.3 million units on the PC in the first two weeks of release (32.5% of the total sales for the game). GOG accounts for 693,000 of those sales (53% of the total PC sales), while all other marketplaces account for 613,000 units combined.

Info

Thanks to Steam Spy we can also estimate that Steam sales are around 572,000, which would account for 44% of all PC sales.

What's surprising here is that GOG > Steam. I find it surprising despite the connections between GOG and CDP.

I thought this also then I remembered that it was heavily bundled with all Nvidia 9xx GPU's for quite some time and they were all GOG versions from this promotion.

I don't know about the steam version, but the physical copies contain gog codes. That's what creates the illusion of gog's prevalence as a sales platform. It's also worth mentioning that regional pricing of physical pc copies in Turkey is amazing: roughly equal to 25 USD and that's even better than the regional prices offered by steam. Console pricing is another story though.

This could be more in GOG's favor than many other cases, but GOG's prevalence is not an illusion even if it's not the biggest platform on PC.

So about 2.7 mil on platforms? Well, there's the pure facts on why games need to be made for platforms just like CDPR said. Can't make a game that big for PC only and expect to come out ahead money wise. Great game! Congrats CDPR! Keep up the good work!

You actually can if you pay attention to long tail sales. But according to your logic, PC isn't allowed exclusives.

Considering the % gaps in RoW, PS4 will likely be around ~2M or so globally.

Released this and Elder Scrolls Online too close together on PS4. I was thoroughly enjoying The Witcher and now I'm hooked on ESOTU and am no longer playing The Witcher.

They can count me for the Enhanced Edition, when I'll have more time and I'll build my next PC. If it's already good now, I can imagine by then, with all the major bugs and glitches fixed and some extras included...
