PSN User Got Account Hacked and Lost $600, Sony Will Only Refund $150 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 13 March 2015 / 5,836 ViewsReddit user Kadjar has posted that his PSN account had been hacked and the person had spent $600 on his account. As soon as he noticed the transactions take place he logged into his PSN account, removed his credit card information and changed his email and password.
He talked with Sony support and told him they could only refund up to $150 of the transactions and that it would be in credit for PSN only. If he disputed the charges with the bank, his PSN account would be deactivated causing him to lose all his purchases.
His existing PlayStation 4 had been deactivated, since the hacker had activated a new PlayStation 4. The Sony support person could not deactivate the new PlayStation 4, and reactivate his old one.
In an update to the post he was contacted by Sony and a customer service representative is looking into the situation.

Really? The first thing a real hacker would do is to change the password.
Its really a strange situation because anyone could say that someone stole their account info. His account wasn't hacked. Someone figured out his password and made purchases on his account. And there is no way to prove that that wasn't him or his little brother or something like that. Ultimately, he should be contacting his FINANCIAL INSTITUTION.
if someone logs into your Amazon account and buys things, and you can't cancel, you call your bank.
I don't believe it.
Sony is only liable if their systems were broken into, if someone gets my password and uses my credit card to make purchases, I then contact my bank to get refunded.
This not-news has spread like a wildfire.
My car got broken into and someone stole my laptop, I'm suing Mitsubishi!
Why the fuck should sony refund someone if 1) their CC company doesn't block transactions that seem excessive 2) The user lost his own details i.e. sony's user storage details were not compromised
While I do agree SONY is in no obligation to refund the games, the unwillingness to reactivate his PS4 because of "only one activation every 6 Month" sounds a bit like a insane troll logic.
Right, lets blame the user. Lets not expect Sony to do anything to protect users on its service. If this turns out to be true I'm removing my credit card info from PSN.
How the fuck are you agreeing with Sony? God some fanyboys...
Yes some fanboys are the worst. I see anyone who agrees this isn't a hack on Sony are getting thumbed down. Funny isn't it? -_-
That's quite enough, y'all.
Use gift cards its much easier
I'm almost reluctant to believe this, I just can't believe Sony's support is this useless.
This is why you buy PSN cards on Amazon digitally and then redeem them. Never give Sony your bank info. lol
Never give it to anyone. I've only ever been hacked on xbox live. I got my money back that same day but still not worth chancing
method114 are you dumb bro? how do you buy shit off amazon?
well i guess you could buy a gift card from a shop..
What did I get 2 dislikes for? Telling the truth? I swear some people on this site and fucking stupid.
I agree man. They'll fuck you the first chance they get. They're not this 'pro consumer' company that people think they are.
This is so unacceptable, a customer support is mean't to help you out with a problem not make it worse, by giving him $150 and if he told his bank he will lose all of his PSN purchase games. Yeah Sony, so much for the players.
The user got hacked, prolly some keylogger on their PC this isn't a psn hack, read the title at least.
