Microsoft Publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider, Helping Develop the Game - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 09 December 2014 / 5,326 ViewsMicrosoft is publishing the Xbox exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider, according to a tweet from Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg. The game was announced as an Xbox exclusive at Gamescom 2014 in August.
"Yes we are publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider," answered Greenberg when asked if Microsoft or Square Enix were publishing the game.
A Square Enix representative has now released a statement to GameSpot confirming the news. Microsoft is providing help to develop and market the game.
"Yes, Microsoft will be publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox," said the Square Enix representative. "Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming."

Good since Sony went with SFV.
Yes doubters, M$ is publishing the game "on Xbox." That doesn't mean its a timed exclusive or that Square will be publishing it on other platforms. Nintendo published Bayonetta 2 on Wii U.. that doesn't mean its open for SEGA or someone else to publish it on other platforms for example.
I'm a little confused as to why people think this means it won't be available on other platforms. Microsoft can publish it on their own console, but that doesn't stop the developer publishing it on another platform through a different publishing house. The tidbit about Microsoft helping to develop the game is a little vague. We don't know to what extent that is. For all we know, it could just be optimisation for the Xbox platform. Chill, people.
This is asinine, but whatever, I just won't be playing Rise of the Tomb Raider any time soon then.
Well I don't think it will be coming to ps4 if that's the case....
Did now know Microsoft was helping with the development. GG Microsoft!
We know that since gamescom :

It's still a "xbox exclusive for holidays 2015", and no one know what will happen after that for 2016.
to all the it's is exclusive talk , the square- enix rep says tat MS will publish it on Xbox , that last bit should tell you something
So it´s an exclusive after all? Better get my own Xbox One for this game then.
No as Square said before it is timed. MS is just publishing for their own console. See Ryse and then Crytek publishing for PC
They should have come out and said it from the start, it would have saved a lot of debate.
So I can kiss goodbye to ever seeing in on PS4 then. Ah well UC4 will be 10 times better anyway
No if you look at the wording of the square representative it says Microsoft will be publishing rise of tomb raider on Xbox the important bit being the on xbox.
Yeah, for sure no PS4. Would have been nice for PS4 owners to be able to play this.

This is going to be Bayonetta 2 all over again. DEY TERK OUR GAEMS.
Except that no one cared about Bayonetta 2. This is a true 8th gen title that people should be worried if it doesn't come on PS4. That can possibly mean the end of TR again because it sells a lot better on PS than any other platform.
It´s a little different from Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 2 was declined by multiple of publishers. Thanks to Nintendo, the game could be produced, and crafted into a fantastic game. Not that it couldn´t have been a great game on any other platforms, but Nintendo has been kind to fund and publish it.
Won't be that big if all it has the X1 install base to work with.
