by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 July 2014 / 8,378 Views

Microsoft following its restructuring renamed its gaming division the Computing and Gaming Hardware division. Revenue for the division increased by 23 percent, due to the growth in Xbox sales and Surface sales.

Xbox shipments increased to 1.1 million units, up from 1 million during the same quarter a year ago. However, the 1.1 million figure includes both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. There were also 11.7 million Xbox consoles shipped in the 2014 fiscal year.

For the fourth quarter, revenue increased 18 percent quarter over quarter to $23.4 billion. Profits dropped seven percent to $4.6 billion. Revenue for the full fiscal year increased by 11 percent year over year to $86.6 billion. Profits for the year increased a small one percent to $22.1 billion.

The Devices and Consumer Other division saw an increase in revenue of 20 percent year over year. The division includes first party Xbox titles, as well as Xbox Live.

any company can say they shipped x amount of products but its the sales to the end user which makes those shipments more important, why is Microsoft constantly using 'shipped' all the time these could be 'shipped' from one warehouse to another, if this is an important statistic why isn't Samsung, Apple, HTC, LG etc also having their 'shipped numbers reported after all they too are 'entertainment' related devices!

Give me a break... You damn well know Sony used the term "Shipped" all last f###ing gen. It's because Xbox isn't #1 like almost all last gen PS3 wasn't #1. How many times did Sony reveal their units SOLD all last gen... Not too many times.

I'm not sure I understand the title. It says that MS shipped 11.7m xbox consoles in 2014. Then the article says that it shipped 1.1m for the quarter (as in in 2014) and then that it shipped 11.7m in the 2014 fiscal year. So which one is it? And does April 2013-March 2014 count as 2014 fiscal year? Since it's mostly 2013, I'd expect it to be called "2013 fiscal year".
Can anyone help?

Great, thanks. So shouldn't the title be changed to reflect that?

The real question is 1.1 m with price cut, both consoles numbers and shipped?
But last year was only the x360 on the market This year is xbone so we have 2 xboxs The sells from one console plus the second = biger number than last year ;)
Tommorow MS learn how we do subtraction :)

It's in Microsoft's FY - July 1 2013 to June 30 2014. 11.7m is not a good figure - they were at 13m-15m annually with X360 alone for a couple years. You're talking about something like a 5-6m split for each console in the year, and X360 is probably going to decline faster than the X1 grows for another year or two.

Keyword of the Day: Shipped

So 5.5 Million Xb 1 shipped, let's assume. 6.2 million 360's shipped. VGC has 360 FY2014 sales at 4.86 million. Under tracked by about 0.5 million? OTOH VGC seems to have kept very good track of Xb one so far (with USA adjustments).

Price Cut happened in June... How is that going to spur millions of sales? Think about your comment... Its price cut was LESS than a month into effect when these numbers were reported.
