the only way anyone can downplay the 3DS sales is by comparing them to the best selling handheld console of all time.

Thanks, they look good. I'd include GBA sales if possible. On my chart 3DS is selling about as well as GBA did

Do you have monthly worldwide sales for the GBA? VGChartz wasn't around back than.

could compare it to something like the GameGear or Neo Geo pocket colour for a wonderfully one sided graph of pretty much just the sales of the 3ds unhindered by anything :D

I would love if along this graph you added points where there was the most 3ds doom threads from both members and "legitimate gaming sites" Maybe just add a third + forth line for doom threads for each system? :D

GBA should be included here, 3DS is selling about on par with it. Both systems sold 27 million in their first two years, but GBA sold 18 million in its third year, where 3DS is only looking to crest 15 million.

That's crazy the gap! No handheld will ever sell as much as DS again. Damn phones & casuals!

Kaizar (on 25 December 2013)

Actually the gap is shrinking at a fast rate, even though the DS was much cheaper at this time, while the 3DS is still $170, while the DS was release at something like $140.

I'd like to see this info broken down by region. The DS had a different sales curve in each of the three main regions, with an especially stark difference in Japan. The DS peaked in 2006 in Japan, but didn't peak in Europe and North America until 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Not surprising after all the things they initially did with the 3DS.
