PS4 Sets UK Record for Biggest Console Launch - News

The PlayStation 4 launched in Europe on November 29 and in the UK sold just under 250,000 units in the UK in 48 hours, according to a source who spoke with GamesIndustry International. This figure makes the PlayStation 4 the biggest launch in gaming history in the UK. The previous record holder was the PSP.
"We are delighted by the initial sales of PS4 and are proud to have set new records for a UK console launch," said Sony's VP and managing director for the UK and Ireland Fergal Gara. "In particular, I want to thank all the gamers who have waited patiently for PS4 and who have come out to support PlayStation. I also want to thank all of our retail and publishing partners who have helped make this possible by delivering huge sales in a very short period of time and great games for PS4."
"Since the initial announcement back in February, preorders for PS4 have surpassed all expectations and we continue to work hard to fulfil the remainder of these preorders and to deliver additional consoles to the market for the many more gamers who want a PS4. Substantial further volumes of PS4 will arrive in the UK before Christmas."
To the Xbox One which sold 152,000 units in its launch in the UK the week before, according to VGChartz. The Xbox One has sold 170,000 units in its first two weeks in the UK. Also the Wii U sold 42,926 units in its opening week and has sold 195,476 units to date.

Was there for a launch event at a locale store, was awesome to see so much excitement for a gaming system absolutely awesome golden Era round 2 of gaming for me. Now we just need to see a handful more titles on the shelves and that hardware will all be going to amazing use.
I think 250K is too high, now that Europe + Australasia = 700K has been confirmed. Now way UK accounts for over 1/3 of total sales across 32 countries.

... It's been confirmed.. And it's totally possible, Sony allocated a better stock to countries where they were falling behind the USA and UK, the rest is pretty much a given. Back in PS3 days it came out 6 months later and people didn't care, they just bought the thing.
it's more so supply, they could have easily sold more if they sent it to the other countries. Some countries you can't even get one until next year.
