Analyst: PS4 and Xbox One Expected to Ship 2.5 to 3 Million Units Each This Year

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be released next month in North America and Europe. Robert W. Baird & Co.’s analyst Colin Sebastian is expecting Microsoft and Sony to ship between 2.5 million and 3 million units for their next generation consoles this year.

Sebastian expects shipments in North America to be between 1.5 million and 2 million units each. Sebastion is predicting sales for the two consoles to be similar in North America or the Xbox One to slightly outsell the PlayStation 4.

"Our shipment unit forecasts are slightly below consensus of 3 million or more for each platform," said Sebastian.

The PlayStation 4 will launch in North America on November 15 and November 29 in Europe. The Xbox One is launching in North America and Europe on November 22.

Will be an interesting console war in 2014. WiiU should be at 3-6 million units, and PS4/One will likely be catching up at 3 million. We'll know who's on top by next fall.

I don't think that will be a war this Gen because one of the consoles will sell much more consoles than the other since the begining...

I believe that XBone will sell less than 2 million (the majority in united states) but PS4, maybe reach the 3 million mark.

Seems about right.

I would agree with that analysis, based on the number of preorders I'm seeing here at VGchartz and the placing for each console on Amazon's various country specific bestsellers charts. I'd guess at least 2.5 million for the Xbox One and at least 3 million for the PS4, possibly more for both depending on rather or not Sony and Microsoft have manufactured enough units to meet the demand.

I think the some of you guys are complete morons. listen, I'm Hardly ever on here and hell, never even log on I just come reading news of the new stuff. It was a lot of the comments That I take issue with. ok listen, to predict one console maker to make over 1,000,000 more consoles sold with all this demand you are delusional and you're an idiot. You have zero insight and your main reasoning is wanting your console choice to do well. Let's face it. They both will. You guys are the minority and while I admit that I will purchase a Ps4. My son and all his buddies are getting call of dutyboxes aka X one. I will play both. I like gaming and obviously you don't because you are here all day long spewing hate rather than gaming. Most trolls don't even have the console that they want so bad. I.e. Gamemaster4747. Back in the 1up days. Go under a rock and let the normal people make their choices based of of finances, games, gaming community, and most importantly - FUN! You can't possibly like games if you are never playing them. I'm more amped because of the X one backlash. You all made them more lime Sony with all of your ranting and stupidity. Talk about your own worst nightmare.

Looks like you just ranted right there. No one even said anything bad about the Xbone until you did.

You might want to calm down a bit

Not seeing it. Demand just isn't there. I'd guess 2 million for each by years end, with X1 taking the lead. Too many delays on the PS side for anyone beyond the loyal to rush out and get one. Demand right not is from ebayers but early signs show demand isn't there for early purchases. I predict both will be readily available and sitting on store shelves 2 weeks after launch.
