Mass Effect 3 Sells 1.85 Million Units First Week

by William D'Angelo, posted on 31 December 1969 / 9,231 Views

First week numbers for Mass Effect 3 are in. The game sold 1.85 million units, which is up from 890,000 in its first day in North America. The Xbox 360 version sold 1.28 million units (69%), while the PlayStation 3 version sold 370,000 units (20%). The PC version sold 200,000 units (11%) at retail.

This is an increase over the previous game in the franchise, Mass Effect 2, which sold one million units in its opening week at retail across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The Xbox 360 version increased by 410,000, the PlayStation 3 version by 280,000 and the PC version by 163,000. The original version of the game sold just 384,121 units in its opening week in May, 2008. This shows that the franchise has increased in popularity dramatically.

Deserved for this excellent game despite the end ^^

I always wonder why this series doesnt get the blockbuster sales it deserves. The 1.85 m doesnt necesssarily translate to 5m lifetime, since its a conclusion to a trilogy and thus sales are probably gonna slow down drastically in subsequent weeks(anyone who was waiting for it probably got it week one)

I'm waiting until the price of buying the actual full game (disc + day 1 DLC) comes down to the launch price for a normal game, or less.

Xbox remains home of this gens good RPG's. To be honest FF13 was a big mistake if MS paid for it. Next to Mass Effect TRILOGY or Witcher 2 FF is non existant. Well done ME3.Superb game.

Recon1O1 (on 16 March 2012)

A good start for a very good game. Sales will tail off fast though. It may hit 4.5m physical copies LT. PS3 owners seem to be waiting on a pricecut, the goty version or a bug fix? It's not much of an rpg but they didn't ruin this series like DA.

With numbers like that for Tales of Graces F, Namco have no excuse not to localize every entry.

ghettoglamour (on 15 March 2012)

So this is now US only? please specify bit better...

Yeah, but of course this doesn't count the PC digital downloads, or the PSN digital downloads. Not to mention VGChartz didn't even track other Mass Effect games on PC around the world. I'll listen to Bioware for actual sales data. This will only get more and more prevalent.

There is no on disc DLC the DLC actually takes 600 mb, i wish it was on disc to save space but its not. The ending sucks though, but its pretty much confirmed that there will be some DLC with a better ending.

Great. Wonder how the legs will be since a lot of people seem to be complaining about the ending and on-disc DLC.

May 2008? Thought Mass Effect 1 was released in 2007 or does that only count the PC version?

This makes me really happy.

well deserved sales. 2012 GOTY !

enrageorange (on 14 March 2012)

are these vgchartz numbers? Mass Effect 3 (360) sold 1.2mil in USA/UK alone. Seems like a pretty bad sales in the rest of Europe if it only managed 80k there. Unless its release date wasn't the same for every country in Euorp.e

AngelosL (on 14 March 2012)

second week sales will show us if people mean business when they protest about the game.

coolbeans (on 14 March 2012)

Why should protests over the last 15 minutes dissaude others from playing the other 30-40 ish quality hours? Where were these ending protests for Resistance 3, Halo 2, and dozens of other games that "ask more questions than answer them" at the end?

next 2.0 millions! haters and homophobes got OWNED! congratulations Bioware, this game is fantastic.

xinstantnoodlez (on 16 March 2012)

How the hell does the PS3 version not even sell half a million units in weak one...the game might as well stay exclusive on the 360 then....so pathetic

Heavenly_King (on 19 March 2012)

You could also have said that with FFXIII, and FFXIII-2.
