@CGI You will have to define what exactly ''stops selling'' means. Is 5k or 10k/week for the upcoming years can be considered as ''stops selling''? 10M cannot be reached magically. And by the way it's performing now, we can easily assume the game will die way sooner than 10M. I won't repeat what I already said about GT4 frame time comparison for obvious reasons. Still the game is a lot more frontloaded then older GT's. People were waiting for this game for a long time and it shows. Can't remember by original estimate for this game, but even 9 million lifetime looks to be difficult, it's a shame because this is basically the best PS3 game out there (after Uncharted), and the racing franchise in general needs this game to do well. I mean look at what's happened to NFS, a good GT is always appreciated. Message | Report |

I didnt say it was impossible for GT5 to reach 10M, just that it was impossible to reach that number without bundles, something that even CGI agreed on. In other words, it all depends on bundles. But now I just have one question and I'm not sure about the answer, that's why I'm asking you guys. Sony did not announce any bundle in the near future. Is it possible to bundle a two years old or more game with a console? I mean is there any example of one of the big three bundling a game launched 2 years ago with their console? @ CGI and atma998 And to end discussion, as GT5 is in its 50th week, almost one year down the road I'm most certain GT 4 already had its holiday sales by this time... so if GT5 is still outselling GT4 on a weekly basis (legs account) and is ahead in the same timeframe (frontload portion)... how came the discussion that it's IMPOSSIBLE to GT5 to reach 10M? You can say it's difficult, or that a bundle or greatest hits may help it, but you can't keep saying that people that think it are completly wrong just because they disagree with you. Or some people will wait to see if after GT4 second holiday GT5 is still ahead to accept the possibility? Because CGI didn't said it is certain that GT5 will cross 10M, but that its very possible. Fact: To reach 10M before the end of 2013, the game will need to sell an average of 30k/week during the next 25 months or so. Fact: The first year of a frontloaded game is always the best selling period of its life cycle. Fact: GT5 sold about 30k/week during 2011 and this number will obviously decrease during the upcoming years if we follow sales trends of a video game like GT5. Now, how can it possibly reach 10M? Heavy bundles? Yeah maybe, that's hypothetical at that point, but you have now to admit it is the only way it can reach that mark and in such a case it doesnt show it perfomed better than the previous tiltes. No misunderting here, I'm not saying the game is selling bad by the way, just that it's not selling as good as previous iterations. It won't reach GT4 LT sales and it won't reach GT3 LT sales either, which is the one to be compared to in the first place since a first iteration of an established franchise (not a growing one) on a new console always sells better than the second one. In the end, GT5 is selling good in comparison to the average sales of a video game, but not that good if we compare it to previous iterations, that's all. Message | Report |

I bought this game and I must say that I don't understand people saying the gameplay sucks, this game has the most subtile/realistic gamplay I've ever seen ! I think it is technically on par with PGR3 I played 5 years ago on 360, maybe I preferd PGR3, but the gameplay is really fantastic.. AI sucks... I hope it sells more than GT4 (10M) Message | Report |

I saw in the recent EMEAA thread, this is above Gran Turismo 4 in the same time frame. GT4 had just come out of a Holiday season too, with GT5 about to go into this one. GT5 will pull ahead in the next 2 Months... It's gonna be bundled at some point, probably next Year. 10 Million should be guaranteed at this point in time. The thing is that in the past years on VGC there was so many people predicting it will easily reach that number (a lot of them were even claiming it will reach that number in Europe only) and now they are not even able to admit it did not sell as good as they tought. When you align the launches for GT4 it's actually tracking ahead of GT5 by about 50k. GT5 could hit 10m but it's not as guaranteed as some think. I don't think it will, it'll sell just a little more than GT2 imo, about 9.5m. Message | Report |

You cannot compare a game released before holidays with one release after and then compare where they stand 1 year after launch, it just doesnt make sense. In January, GT5 will have benefit from 2 holidays vs. only one for GT4. Anyway since you don't understand it let's put this aside and let's just take a look at what GT5 needs to sell to reach 10M. A logical explanation? Dude, I already gave you tons of logical explanations. But just look at the numbers, this game is currently selling what? 20k/week. Even if it can sell a couple of weeks over 100k during the holidays and manage to reach 7.5M on January 1st 2012, how do you think it will sell for 2012, 2013 and 2014? No more than 1.5 million for these three years seems reasonable to believe which makes 9 million LTD. But imo it will probably be less than that like 8-8.5M LTD seems even more reasonable. In aligned launches GT4 has already had its first holiday (In Europe and NA, not in Japan though), and as CGI points out GT5 is still comfortably ahead of GT4. There's pretty much no way this isn't getting to 10 million. I'd even wager a bet that it could beat GT3 if Sony bundled it somewhat heavily. Message | Report |

@Puggsly This will easily cross 7 million this year even without bundling. It's already sold 1.3 million so far this year outside the holidays. @ CGI: No, you're getting confused here. ;) We're discussing franchises here, and as I see it, that means the newest game in a series represents the franchise. Now, CoD games might be frontloaded and Black Ops may have sold "faster" than GT5, but so far this year, GT5 and BO have been selling neck and neck in EMEAA. So when BO is 500k units ahead in total sales, I can't see how GT is the bigger franchise. True, BO will fade away once MW3 releases, but there are no signs that MW3 will sell less than BO, so by the time GT5 has overtaken BO, MW3 might very well have done the same. My evidence to support this is as good as your evidence and your case, but right now the numbers are clear. Black Ops is more popular than Gran Turismo 5 and MW3 will be even more popular (tracking about 50% higher in the american pre-orders compared to Black Ops a year ago). Message | Report |

I think you're confusing yourself. You said "CoD is selling more, but as a franchise, GT is bigger than CoD in EMEAA." If GT is the bigger franchise (looking strictly at the PS3), then why has Black Ops outsold it? They've had about the same time on the market, so if GT is bigger, it should do better. I know GT5 will beat BO, that's obvious of course, but CoD is a moving target. Once MW3 releases, then that's the one to beat. Let's say that in one year, GT5 has sold an extra million copies in EMEAA, putting it at a little over 5m units. Black Ops outsold MW2 (on PS3) by about 21% (at the 42 weeks mark), and if MW3 follows that trend, it will have sold about 5.4m copies on the PS3 in EMEAA this time next year. The future is of course purely speculation, but right now CoD is in fact the bigger franchise (on PS3). Message | Report |

When this game goes down in price it will get a significant boost. When the holidays come it will get a significant boost that should put it over 7 million. If this game is bundled then who knows how many copies can be sold! The sky is the limit there! If theres one thing that can keep gt5 from reaching 10 million it will be because gt6 is coming out! I believe this will hit 10 million with about 1.5-2.0 in bundled sales. and i was in the sales prediction threads in fact i correctly guessed the opening week(within 150k) and my estimate of lifetime sales was 9.5 million, i have moved that to 10 recently for a few reasons. @CGI I read a lot of your comments on GT5 vs. GT4 and have never seen a reference to the holidays. The only territory where GT4 has been released during the holidays...and at the very end of this period is in Japan and guess what if we compare the two games...GT5 is doing horrible. Anyway, it doesnt change the fact that the game is now selling less than 20k/week (or isnt it less than 15k now?) and even with some little boosts here and there is not on its way to reach 10 million at all. @ CGI-Quality Ok i have a xbox 360, but for me halo is the worst game of all time. A play Gran turismo a lot of time ago. I play GT1 with GTO twin turbo, play GT2 com o suzuki escudo, PLay GT4 with minolta. I like the game but for me the game is very hardcore, i don't play only GT3. For me for example GT5 is better than forza 3, but i prefer forza because is more easy to drive, have more assists. So this debate is not to downsize the game, it's about data of sales. The game is great, in sales and in gameplay, the game is now 4th but can reach easily the 3rd position on ps3 sales, passing GTA4. It's amazing sales lose only to COD. As i say the game have a big slow down, 10K this week, if vgchartz data is right. As i say the game need with optmistic scenario on japan and USA, to sell 6.4 milion of copies in EMMEA. No game in ps3 reach this. So i think that GT5 don't reach 10 milion of copies. Except with bundle. The debate is about data. If i am wrong on my analisys, say to me. As 4k1x3r do. If this game mantains sales at 20k in a week in average , what i am not believe,, and if data from vgchartz is right, you need a four years to reach 10 milion, only in 2015. Just do the count. MAybe the theory of price cut is right, look GT4 data more closer in week 72 the game sales are 60k. But what is very different is the legs of the games. GT4 holds 30k every week or much than this in 150 weeks. The sales in USA and japan are more bigger (in week 28, to adjust the launch delay USA plus Japan have a 2.72 milion). Until now GT5 sales in japan plus usa are 2.3 milion. I think that game desacellerate very fast. But what nobody anwers to me how many copies the game can sell in EMEAA? How is the limit? Remember that PS3 is not a PS2. in 2005 PS2 have a 100 milion of consoles. PS3 have a half of this. Let's calculate again. Suppose that GT5 sales in USA are 2.9 milon and in japan 700k. 3.6 milion of copies USA plus Japan. To game reach 10 milion it's have to sell 6.4 milion in EMEAA. My question is the game can reach 6.4 milion in EMEAA? With most optmistic behaviour in USA and in Japan, it seems clear to me that the game don't reach 10 milion. In PS2 only two games sell more then 6.4 milion in EMEAA, GT4 and GTA san andreas. Right now the game in PS3 with more sales in EMEAA is black ops with 4.17 milion in EMEAA. Wbalmant- I don't know whether you're serious or not, but you're comparing an aligned weeks launch with a differed weeks launch. Gt4 selling over 100k on week 18 is completely normal, there's like 14 weeks difference with the launch in Japan, it was like the 4 or 5th week in Emeaa and americas. Check the Emeaa and Americas chart when you're on the 18th week of GT4 and you'll understand why it's so high. @dsage01 - halo reach is xbox exclusive that sells mostly in america. there are 31 million xboxs in america. gta sells in emeaa where there is only 23 million (8 million less) therefore halo reach will have better legs due to the fact that it is also a popular game with a larger audience. call of duty sells more for the xbox in america but less in emeaa when compared to the ps3 version. now, call of duty is a multiplatform therefore doubling the audience. it has appeal in both areas therefore its sales are divided semi evenly (with america being larger due to the fact that there are more consoles in that market) so, to compare this games legs you could look at cod:black ops EMEAA sales which is about 20k a week and gt5 emeaa sales which is about 15k a week is VERY good. any questions? PS3 has one third of it. How many years PS3 can be alive? And i think the game are losing power. This week the game is not in top 40 and sales are just near 30k. GT4 for example sold in week 16 140k. In week 25 the GT4 holds 50 K. We don't see this moviment in GT5, the game has continuos drop week sales, if vgchatz is right. GT5 starts very well, but lose legs. Halo reach is a piece of shit, but the game sold 7.55 milion in week 16 and this week the game is top 20, but i am don't sure that the game reach 10 milion. It's hard to preview the future, but if nothing change much, i think is very dificult to game reach 10 milion. But what piss me off is the some people talk about 10 milion in 2012, the most selling game of PS3, but sorry no one reach black ops, and i think that in five or four years maybe can reach 10 milion, but how PS3 state in 2015? Ok let's talk again. I did some accounts and if vgchartz data is correct, GT5 will never get 10 milion. I assume that the game sell 30k in every week for 2 years or 96 weeks. It's clear that the game don't hold 30k for 2 years, but let's assume it. With this amazing sales, the game wiil reach only 8.9 milion of copies sales. @wbalmant Dude, have you seen the newest updates? Sure the game will not be fun for some. Aren't there games out there that don't please you even though it does in the eyes of others? Of course, I know people who LOVE gt5 and people who don't. Another thing is that comparing COD to GT is not a very good comparison. GT games have legs, long ones. They last much longer than COD's, so the notion that because COD sells more in half the time means GT won't it silly. If you don't like the game well too bad, but I do. I don't know how vgchartz track the games data. But I trust more in a site than in poliphony digital. Same thing to kinetic. Microsoft talk about 8 mil in the end of december, but in vgchartz this is not true. But what i really don't understand is how the people here can like so much of one of wrost gran turismo. Just see the sales in japan is the worst result of all gran turismo. I like of the game, but is not a very fun experience, (in all gran turismo the fun is not the priority). This game is simulator. Every people that i know that have the game never do 100%. I think that with assists the game will be more easy, but it's not true, with assists the game continues to be very hard. And the game come with o lot of issues, you can't edit gears solely, just the final velocity, this is a simulator godamitt, how they lauch the game in this condition? I talk with my friend and he think that PD want to use the 7 processors of PS3 to boost the game, but probaly they problem with code, to program for 7 processors, the late is to adapt the code. The game is not from other world. Have a lot of cars, but only 200 is premium. The game don't have much tracks. Why the lauch is too late? I think it is a problem with hardware-software. But what piss-me off is the people that talk the game reach 10 M, as a profecy. Come on, none of PS3 games reach 10M. The most selling is MW2 with 9.1M. With vgchartz data the game sell only 60K in the end of week 10. MW2 sell 111k in the end of week 10 and don't get reach 10M, maybe never get 10M. GT5 have amazing sales but it's far far away from 10M. I think that in 4 weeks the sells goes to 20 or 30K to week. But it is a good game, but not the best game of all time. Sinceraly i have a list of one hundred of games better than GT5. Message | Report |
