@oniyide: The next entry will cut the momentum of this one, yes, but not completely; MWR and W@Wii sold a bit more after their successors came out. It should also be noted that unlike previous Wii COD games, this one had to compete against Goldeneye 007; a well made FPS released on the same system at the same time.

Price drop? Wii's version of Modern Warfare is still at $30 new most places and around $25 used and still has some legs left to it. I wish they would finally drop it to the < $20 the other versions go for but hey squeeze what they can out of it before they fully drop it I guess.

@curl-6 that might be true, but dont you think the yearly releases are just gonna cut off the legs of these games?? MW3 is around the corner and im sure BLOPS will stop selling, unless it gets a hell of a price drop. Even if we were to go with that thought process, why has this no effect on the HD versions?? Every game sold so far has outsold its predeccessor

@oniyide: Past Wii COD games have had longer to reach those sales. I don't know how to do a comparison, but I'd bet Black Ops is tracking pretty close to what MW and W@W were at this point in their lifespans.

@primogen18 i see where you are coming from but the games have actually gotten better, but the sales keep getting worse with each installment. I find this strange, while the HD versions keep selling more and more. So either some Wii owners just gave in and got an HD console too play these games or they just said screw it to the series, im going with the former

primogen18 posted 19/08/2011, 03:05
I have to say this again, if you played Red Steel, Vanguard, or COD3 Wii as your first shooter would you have much faith in the console enough to keep buying shooters for it? Both had some rough controls and COD3 was stripped of any multiplayer it had even in past gen versions. Had the features in Black Ops been there from the beginning I am sure the Wii audience would have had more trust in the genre from the beginning and they would have built a more substantial audience over the years. Those first few games left a bad taste in alot of people's mouths and it's because alot of developers had the "cannot be done on Wii" mentality. Now we have Black Ops how many years later and the series still sells a million without any struggle meaning activision should consider themselves lucky at this point. Missing and late installments (MW/MW2) and PS3/360 centralized marketing (preordering can be a chore) doesn't help either.

primogen18 posted 27/04/2011, 08:20
you can't say it's not all on the developers and then say somethin about down-ports. Wii does not have to recieve "down ports". Black Ops on Wii has many features that several claimed weren't even possible on the system only a year or so before that, I am sure there are more that are still being left out such as DLC. You have to put in effort which developers aren't. COD3 could have had all the features from the start that Black Ops on Wii has today and more and it would have only gotten better from there , THAT is all on the developers.
Message | Report
Pierreism posted 27/04/2011, 01:03
Well it's not ALL to do with the developers. You must factor in the fractured audience for the genre who will inevitably choose the highest-quality choice, and at the end of the day the Wii will always get down-ports of multiplatform games.

so what you guys are saying that it was perfectly fine to not even try at the beginning at all? That is quite a horrible view in anything especially if you complain later down the road that things aren't going as well as you wanted. COD3 released as a PS2 port with the multiplayer completely cut out and everything else tacked on. After that whole games were missing and still things were gimped. I guess I could expect to sit around doing nothing all year in school and in the end still expect an A or B because I did good on one of the last assignments because apparently thats how the world works.

@ Boutros - Exactly. On a side note, Sony and MS made great efforts to appeal to shooting fans by putting out great shooters over the years and giving support to developers. NIntendo really didn't do anything to appeal to shooting and unsurprisingly their platform sucks in that genre.

Boutros posted 21/04/2011, 11:14

In a sense the Wii does have a lack-luster FPS following, but it has nothing to do with the console or the audience and everythin to do with the crappy start the genre got off to thanks only to lazy developers.
Message | Report
primogen18 posted 15/04/2011, 06:38
I am sure if developers put as much into a game from the start as Treyarch put into Black Ops with the deep online , decent graphics, and polished/customizable controls the FPS genre would be flourishing on Wii. Instead by the time developers gave a crap it was too late and in the beginning we got Red Steel which was ok but the controls were un-polished and it lacked online multiplayer. The COD and MOH ports came with no multiplayer at all and the same un-polished controls/ graphics.

primogen18 posted 15/04/2011, 06:30
@MrPuggsly the Wii fanbase was never given a real chance. We will never knwo how big the FPS genre could be on Wii because they were never given a real chance to begin with. Had the Wii audience been given the quality titles and features other consoles had from the start, things would be far different. You can't tell me missing games, crap controls, and and features didn't drive people to avoid such games on the console. You go play Red Steel 1 or COD 3 and lets see if YOU would want more FPS after that.
Message | Report
Mr Puggsly posted 14/04/2011, 11:26
@ primogen18 - The Wii just doesn't have a big FPS fan base. Its a lack luster genre on the Wii. CoD a lone can't change that no matter how good they get the ports.

They lost sales of W@W when COD3 released with no multiplayer what-so-ever and people left after that. Then with MW when it arrived on other consoles and left Wii gamers wanting more after W@W, so then some people left and some stayed around. MW eventually came but still missing features and way too late but still some stayed and some left. Black ops came after alot of fans were tired of waiting for something better and had already left, but some stayed with the hopes things like DLC might show up. Of course the people who avoided this game because they had been burned before were only proven right and we are still left with the question as to if first strike or anything like it will come.

shame to see that between treyarch and IW (mostly IW), the COD series never reached its' full potential on Wii. Sales could have been growing if they only kept up with putting MW out the same time as other systems, keeping up with DLC, releasing MW2,giving equal promotion etc. I hate how people blame Wii gamers for sales that don't match up, it's the fault of developers for constantly burning wii gamers with such issues and pushing people away. It's a shame because they downsized their audience and market. They could have all 3 systems in the 8+ millions...

Most people gave up and switched or just gave up all together. You said PS3/360 have countless fps's? Well on Wii they are few and far in between, too much for some people.
