Forums - Gaming Discussion - If a NSFW game had the budget and marketing of GTA, what would it be like?

Tagged games:

One thing that is always interesting is just how much money games cost. But NSFW games for the most part are low budget. So imagine with me what it would be like. Would it actually be a fun game? With that much budget I don't think the main point would be NSFW activities, it would just be featured. I imagine the game would not have as much violence, explosions, special effects, etc. as a GTA game would. Who knows, maybe it would be like open world hyper realistic Sims? Maybe it would feature multiple countries and the different NSFW activities? Or maybe it WOULD feature the violence and be even more brutal than GTA in like a historic setting.

I am curious. What do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure GTA is already not safe for work

It is, but it isn't. NSFW is just the term I used to try and differentiate between an adult game vs a teenager/kid game like GTA :P.  I suppose a better term would be a game that couldn't be sold in regular stores.

Leisure Suit Larry Laffer fits the bill, especially 5-8. Magna Cum Laude even got an A-O rating.

Europe, especially Germany, had quite a few adult games, many of them tycoon or other such economic simulations. Biing, Wet: The Sexy Empire, Lula 3D, Singles: Flirt up your Life (Also A O rated despite the nudity getting censored)...

The main problem being that the US are too prude for a game that has more than just PG13 sex or might even just have *gasp* bare nipples! And since the US are the biggest videogame market. The other problem is that the massive failures of Lula 3D and the atrocious Larry Lovage games pretty much killed the market for publishers.

Honestly, a big budget game would just have to show penetration one time for it to get a NSFW tag. Nudity is generally acceptable but it normally is a novelty effect or leads to softcore grinding (but I think even just female breasts lead to an M rating).

Subverse got ~2 million dollars on Kickstarter... does that count?

Nope, that is only $2m+. Just imagine Subverse with $120m dev budget, and another $120m marketing :P.

It will be like Sims with open world, freedom to do anything and nudity.

Pocky Lover Boy!

At the end of the day, I think we'd get more nudity in games if the US was more accepting of such. And, the US is becoming more accepting, so I think we will see more nudity in games over the next couple of decades. But, in order to get a big AAA budget, the game isn't going to be able just sell sex or violence. It's going to have to be in an established genre that sells something more than those gimmicks. So, my guess is that an NSFW game with a AAA budget would just be GTA with more tits and ass. And, that's fine with me.

Just imagine a porn movie with $120m dev budget, and another $120m marketing.

According to Google, there only exists one with a budget bigger than 1.5 million dollars.

They also list "Caligula" with 17.5 million, but that's a normal history movie with some very bad orgy scenes.

Those prerendered "games" in the intros of porn videos on Pornhub...so I've heard.
