During the last few weeks, the Nintendo DS achieved another significant milestone in the systems fruitful life.

With Super Mario 64 DS, the system has now got ten games that sold over 10-million copies according to VGC. Somehow it seems fitting that the DS's most important launch-title was also it's last game to make it to this milestone and give the DS this record. This is indeed such a difficult and so significant of a feat, that no other system before it has ever achieved this milestone!

The DS thereby beat out the Wii, which is also the next contender. The Wii currently has nine 10-million sellers, but the number ten, while close, likely won't reach this number anymore sadly. After that, the XBox 360 has a difficult but fair shot at reaching the milestone as the second system to ever do this, currently with seven 10-million sellers and two on the way which likely make the cut as well. Interestingly, even the mighty PlayStation 2 and the legendary NES both never came close to this milestone.

Congratulations to the DS, probably the most successful gaming device ever created!

According to VGC here the PS2 ended with five 10-million sellers, so the PS2 got nowhere near this record. It also never even had the record of 'most 10-million sellers' in the first place; before the Wii (or DS, I don't know which had nine first) took it, GameBoy had it for the longest time with six 10-million sellers apparently. PS2 does still have a couple (almost literally) million more hardware sales than DS though, something which the DS probably isn't going to beat anymore, but obviously PS2 took longer to get where it is.

it should easily, lets not forget the game sells ar $25 which is crazy for a game thats been out almost DS entire Lifetime O.o

I agree this is astonishing really. Because of your post I quickly checked a retailer here, most of those games are still being sold at full price. And they apparently got away with it for the entire generation. Talk about ever-greens. Even Super Mario 64 DS is!

At a glance, it looks like Just Dance 3 could make it. It sold over 200k last December (almost 300k Nov+Dec), and has sold over 10k every month this year so far. As for how it could do this Holiday, last year Just Dance 2 sold about 90k in Nov+Dec. So with similar numbers, JD3 could rack up over 100k by the end of the year. Then it'll be within 20k of 10 mil... it could happen.

The surprising thing is that many retailers still sell that game at full price, almost 10 years later.



 Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

I agree it could happen, and if this hasn't been a succesful enough of a generation already for Nintendo, having both systems achieve that many 10-million sellers would be icing on the cake. For the statistics it's too bad that they released Just Dance 3 as a seperate version under a different name in Japan and thus has a different database entry here on VGC, otherwise Wii would've taken this record already months ago...
