Just read an interesting article about Killzone and the story of the helghast, thought i should share it with you guys
Throughout all the Killzone titles we are prompted to take up arms against our very own brothers, the Helghast. Thought to be the most dangerous villains known to universe, the Helghast true ambitions were no more harmless than what was already occurring on Earth. Their untold back story is what truly makes them gaming most hated good guys.
I have always read comments from others about how it would be a great idea to play as the Helghast. Their reasoning is because the Helghasts are actually the good guys. Now if you were like me, that statement would have seemed a bit confusing, but after doing research it all makes sense.
An astonishing opening from the original Killzone, this scene show exactly what the Helghast were after and that is their freedom. Yet, appearing towards the end you see Visari with a daunting grin on his face as if his visions were evil. This leads into the game where you start off playing as an ISA officer on planet Vekta, fending for your life from the Helghast "invasion". This progresses through all the series as you continue to play as the ISA, who at from the perspective of a gamer is actually the good guys. But let’s look at the history of Planet Vekta and Planet Helghan.
The Helghast originally started off as normal humans like us. They were originally formed right here on Planet Earth, with their main goal being to create habitable planets for people, due to Earths conditions. After discovering Planet Vekta and Helghan, the United Colonial Nations auction these two planets off to help with the current financial crisis. The buyers, as you probably guessed, were the Helghast. This leads up to the true invasion of Vekta.
While the Helghast were busy with founding new business on Vekta, the United Colonial Nations were busy making plans to invade Vekta with the ISA forces. The main reason, profits. Like mentioned, the UCN was experiencing a financial crisis and with Helghast making a mass amount of profits with the businesses on Vekta it was their only option. This leads us to the intro of the original Killzone. Forced off their own planet, the Helghast went on to live on Planet Helghan, which at the time was inhabitable due to its harsh conditions. And though it did degrade the life expectancy, it also helped transformed the people of Helghan into far more powerful beings. And thus the campaign for freedom began as Visari slowly gained power in the Helghast society, leading up to not the invasion, but the reclaiming of their land.
so what do yuo guys think? should we play as the helghast? are the helghast really the bad guys? what do you guys think killzone 4 should be like?
