Capcom Profits Drop 90% to $2.4m for Apr-Jun 2010 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 29 July 2010 / 3,422 Views

For the three months ending June 2010, Capcom earned revenues of 19.037 billion Yen ($213.9 million) down slightly from 19.497 billion Yen ($219 million) in the previous June quarter. As with Nintendo though, foreign exchange losses for Capcom caused a sharp drop in profitability compared to a year ago. In the June 2010 quarter, Capcom profit was 213 million Yen - $2.39 million. During the June 2009 quarter, Capcom profited 2.230 billion Yen ($25.05 million).

Despite the big drop off in profit for the June quarter, Capcom has not revised its forecast for the March 2011 fiscal year. Revenues are still forecast to reach 95 billion Yen ($1.067 billion). Profit is still forecast to reach 8 billion Yen ($89.9 million) for the fiscal year as well.

During the first quarter of the fiscal year, several Capcom titles performed well.

  • Lost Planet 2 shipments for X360 & PS3 combined reached 1.50 million units worldwide
  • Super Street Fighter IV shipments for PS3 & X360 combined reached 1.35 million units worldwide
  • Monster Hunter 3 shipments for Wii (launched in the West in April) reached 0.69m units worldwide and now stand at 1.8m worldwide

Nonetheless, Capcom said "sales units exceeded the plan for most titles, although sales of Lost Planet 2 and others fell short of the projection". In its previous forecast, Capcom said it expected Lost Planet 2 shipments to reach 2.2m units in the fiscal year. That probably won't happen now, as it will take a long time to sell through the 1.5m units shipped through June 2010.

Capcom plans to make more money by strengthening its development efficiency and expanding its presence in the downloadable / online video game market. Titles such as Monster Hunter Frontier Online for PC and X360 (130k shipped through July 20), and Ipad / phone versions of big console and portable titles are a major part of Capcom's push to make more money in the current fiscal year.

@oni

heheheheehe I'm glad there's another oni other than myself. I think 3rd party games sell modest to decent on the Wii!!! Enough to make a bit of a profit or even berake even. On average 3rd party games on the Wii (good or bad) sell at about 200-250K lifetime worldwide. With low development cost and a chance for a break thru title a 3rd party would be foolish not to attempt success on the Wii!!!! Also regarding MH:Tri, it is currently MH most successful outing in the west shipping nearly 700k units since being released in less than half a year ago. Capcom should be optimistic about the opportunity to further boost MH with future releases to western markets!!!

So basically, lost planet 2 fell short and MH:tri exceeded and SSF: IV met Capcom's expectations!!!

Honestly they should just leave MH in Japan, I feel Capcom just keeps cramming this series down US & Euro's throats and most people just dont care. Out of all those MH sales less than 750,000 were outside of Japan. Noboby cared on PSP, PS2 and Wii with the large install bases

@shonen first Lost PLanet 2 was FAR from great, second SSF4 was just a revamp, and Monster HunterTri...did good. Honestly im glad a third party Wii game did well. Lets be honest most 3rd party games on Wii flop, good or bad, and as a Wii owner who buys mostly 3rd party games thats disheartening

Cool Monster Hunter 3 sold more on the Wii than two other great titles that was released on two different consoles, but we know that means nothing cuz third party games does not sells on the Wii by any means ! Capcom is lying ! -kidding-
