Joining New Super Mario Bros Wii on release this week are Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. The original Assassin's Creed title sold 570,000 on Xbox 360 and 235,000 on PS3 back in 2007. We expect total week on sales to be similar for Assassin's Creed 2, but more evenly spread between the two platforms - around 500,000 on Xbox 360 and 350,000 on PS3. Left 4 Dead sold just over 300,000 copies this time last year in its first week - we expect the sequel to outperform that by at least 50% - 450,000 - 500,000 units is very realistic.

A number of other games also release next week - Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines (PSP), Tony Hawk: Ride, Harvest Moons on both Wii and DS, Lego Indiana Jones 2, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, God of War Collection and Naruto: Clash of Ninja 3 on Wii should all have solid week ones.

You can see last weeks chart here, and be sure to check back next week for the latest movers and shakers.

God of War III seeing over 30k new pre-orders. Awesome. With several months til release it'll be fun to see how it stands a week before release.

CGI-Quality (on 16 November 2009)

MAG truly does impress me. I hope it performs well in January. God of War III being where it is isn't too surprising though. This IS Kratos after all, in his last outting (as of now) on any PlayStation platform.

Left 4 Dead 2 is doing great, and I only have 10 hours left before I'm playing it for the next month straight! :-D

  • 0
Tbone (on 16 November 2009)

Nice Gow III numbers and people thought it would be stupid to relase it next to FF13, Lightning don´t stand a chance against Kratos chaos :-D

I want to see what happens next week. SO many titles will be gone. What do you guys think the next set will look like. I'm thinking Final Fantasy XIII is going to take off soon.

big increase for God of war 3

  • 0
Baalzamon (on 16 November 2009)

wow! i was like 99% sure MAG would make it to the top, GoW3 will be one of the fastest selling ps3 games yet...and I am 100% going out to buy a ps3 before then. I'm thinking that God of War 3 is so much higher because it has advertising much higher than Gran Turismo...I still don't expect gt5 to come out until April or May.

  • 0
Gab (on 16 November 2009)

Wow, maybe MAG will never be on top, looked like a shure thing for the last couple of weeks.
Should be interesting next week, when we finally "get rid" of a lot of titles. GoW III should continue to increase well with GoW Collection releasing this week. FFXIII should also be able to increase now that it has a release date. The Saboteur PS3 will hopefully chart next week, although preorders are too low for both versions of this title.

I also have high hopes for Battlefield: BC 2, and it is looking good so far.

Ps3 is doing so well not even funny has ff13 and god of war collector edition then beginning of 2010 it has heavy rain ff13 god of war 3 mag bad company a lot of people will have to make tough decision i hope ff13 sales dont get in the way of god of war 3

As for FFXIII next year will be the start as we grow closer to the release date. GOW III is big NA so and there's GOW collection. It's creating a hype and excitement.

As much as I wish that were true. It's doing pretty terribly. I hope things pick up soon.

GoW3 got more pre-orders this week than ACII for PS3 which releases next week !

  • 0
RageBot (on 16 November 2009)

Not quite, first of all, GT5 didn't yet get a release month in the US, second, GoW3 is getting more advertising due to the collection.

  • 0
coolbeans (on 16 November 2009)

Wow at L4D2 out-doing NSMBWii for weekly preorders. MAG could probably pull off 300k-400k numbers depending on if the hype starts to climb after Christmas.

  • 0
tedsteriscool (on 16 November 2009)

God of War III is going to have a massive opening.

  • 0
Boberman (on 16 November 2009)

I think your #'s are to optimistic. Sales are down this year, and the biggest game of the year will have eaten up some of these games releasing next weeks sales. I just can't see next week pushing 2 million game sales with 4 new games(well 3 AC2 on 2 playforms).

  • 0
Gilgamesh (on 15 November 2009)

Holy crap God of War III is out performing GT5 in pre-orders by quite a bit, don't they both release around the same time?

  • 0
Aion (on 15 November 2009)

Wow FF XIII in NA is doing amazing!!

  • 0
arcane_chaos (on 15 November 2009)

when I pre-ordered MAG, they were out of beta codes...dammit!!! anyway what a huge jump for GoW III! can't wait for tuesday!! AC II, AC: bloodlines, and Gow 1&2 collection set: "you're all mine!"

  • 0
Quickdraw McGraw (on 15 November 2009)

God of War 3's increase is likely due to the increased advertising at GameStop (assuming that my region isn't an anomaly).
When at the MW2 launch I noticed a few posters of God of War 3 with fake game boxes all around the store asking for pre-orders that weren't there the week before.

And MAG, if those numbers are correct, is very impressive. I honestly thought this would be dead on arrival; Zipper has some loyal fans.

  • 0
TheThunder (on 15 November 2009)

If it keeps at the same rate God of War 3 will be the #1 pre ordered game next week. Seriously 30k when it doesn't have a release date yet and all those game releasing it's crazy !!

  • 0
Blacksaber (on 15 November 2009)

So were getting 13 new games on here next week...

  • 0
Hisiru (on 15 November 2009)

MAG is doing an excellent job for a new IP (and look at the "weeks to release" part). New Super Mario Bros. Wii will have a great opening, let's see the legs for this master piece.

HelloMotto (on 15 November 2009)

no way, God of War is now more popular than FF in NA.

  • 0

AC:Bloodlines has almost no pre-orders.

PSP software sales are really sad...

  • 0
NicholasCage (on 15 November 2009)

MAG and God of War 3, amazing pre order numbers.

But God of War with a very high increase, maybe because of the collectors edition?

  • 0
MontanaHatchet (on 15 November 2009)

All I know is, the next preorder chart should be very interesting. A bunch of new entries (since a bunch of games launch over the next week), and 2 PS3 games holding the top spots. Can't wait for Mass Effect 2, it's gonna be great!

  • 0
Tiko7523 (on 15 November 2009)

Ps3 verison of ac2 is kinda disapointing considering all the commericals are for the ps3

can't wait for the god of war collection and left 4 dead 2 this week!

  • 0
heruamon (on 15 November 2009)

Wow to's really surging, and might beat out AC2 for the 360. The landscape is pretty bare until ME2, but I think it's going to blaze to the forefront of preorders this week...I''m putting it on...along with Dante's Inferno.

  • 0
ioi (on 15 November 2009)

The data has always been posted on the Sunday following the reporting period. It doesn't say Americas sales for the period ending the 15th it says Americas sales, 15th.

Can't believe we are arguing over something so insignificant here anyway.

  • 0
postofficebuddy (on 15 November 2009)

I would have expected a larger increase for FFXIII since it has a release date now but most people probably weren't even aware of it until Friday evening. I still think the PS3 version will beat the 360 version in America. GOW3 is almost certainly surging on the strength of the collection. It still doesn't have a release date? Be interesting to see if it beats MAG next week. NSMB should have a very good opening here in the states. And GT5 is doing pretty good considering it still doesn't have a western release date.

  • 0
Jansky8 (on 15 November 2009)

I am pretty sure MAG isn't going to be number 1 next week. Look at the increase GOW3 had this week. If it keeps on at the same rate, then it'll be number 1 next week. PS3 Domination FTW (jk, I dont care).

  • 0
binary solo (on 15 November 2009)

FF XIII to be one of those rare titles that will sell more on PS3 than 360 in Americas? It is mostly appealing to the former PS2 gamer who has gone 360, which I think is not a large % of the 360 demographic.

Big lag for Bioshock 2 pre-orders between 360 and PS3, but it is FPS.

Surprised Bayonetta is on the list for PS3 but not for 360. But it's early days yet for this title and I'm sure 360 is at 41 and only a few hundred behind, I think 360 pre-orders will eventually exceed PS3 by the time the game launches in America.

  • 0
outlawauron (on 15 November 2009)

If this is data week ending 14th, than you need to edit the title.

  • 0
huaxiong90 (on 15 November 2009)

@Simulacrum: GT5 has no release date in the US. So I don't see what's so impressive.

  • 0
ioi (on 15 November 2009)

Huh? I always post this Sunday night (my time) if I get chance - the data is as of the week ending 14th as with the normal retail data but I post it anytime between Sunday and Tuesday normally depending on when I get time.

  • 0
Chairman-Mao (on 15 November 2009)

I'm so impressed with MAG! It's gonna be top spot hopefully for the next 9 weeks! Unless some other game gets a sudden influx of pre-orders.

GOW3 is gaining momentum now that MW2 is gone.

Also, FF XIII should increase over time. How much? We'll have to see.

  • 0
darthdevidem01 (on 15 November 2009)

YEah but the God Of War collection is releasing = GREATER public realisation that god of war 3 is coming soon....basically people are more likely to pre-order GOW 3

& Bad company 2 was announced for that date ages ago

You will see pre-orders rise at a never before seen rate soon

  • 0
nen-suer (on 15 November 2009)

Nice increase for GOW3

MAG will be no1 next week :)

  • 0
Rei (on 15 November 2009)

@ darthdevidem01:

So what? God of War 3 doesnt have a release date yet as you can see its preorders are great (and FF is supposed to be slightly bigger than GoW in NA)

And just look at Bad Company 2's pre-orders.

  • 0
darthdevidem01 (on 15 November 2009)

it just got its release date this week.....& combined its very high on the list

you think its not great cus it says 16 in the weks column now

  • 0
sabby_e17 (on 15 November 2009)

Woah at GOW3!

  • 0
huaxiong90 (on 15 November 2009)

@Hephaestos: May, actually, not March. Which day isn't specified.

  • 0
donsterydo2 (on 15 November 2009)

MAG is doing amazing if you think about the number of PS3 in US.

  • 0
huaxiong90 (on 15 November 2009)

@Munkeh: Not if God of War III has a similar increase.

  • 0
Hephaestos (on 15 November 2009)

it has one since Friday.... march 9th 2010 (err well beginning of march it is the exact date I forgot).

  • 0
Munkeh111 (on 15 November 2009)

So MAG will be the top pre-ordered game next week!

But it looks like we will have a good start for AC II and GoW III is doing great, certainly several 100k first week

  • 0
huaxiong90 (on 15 November 2009)

@Rei: Too early to tell.

@Dirty: No release date = no pre-orders.

OT: God of War III is increasing at an unusually high rate. And it seems this week Mass Effect 2 had higher numbers in a weekly change than MAG. Wonder if this'll continue?

  • 0
Rainbird (on 15 November 2009)

The God of War 3 demo must really be working effective some wallet massaging with people when there are this many pre-orders already.

@ Boutros

Not necessarily. Porting these two PS2 to the PS3 took only 15 weeks, so even at $40 a piece, the GoW Collection is bound to make money. When all is said and done, I think will have sold quite well (relative to circumstance).

  • 0
haxxiy (on 15 November 2009)

That was early.

MAG slowing down, I wonder if the GoW III increase have something to do with the GoW collection, FFXIII should see some boosts now it does have a release date.

  • 0
Kantor (on 15 November 2009)

Wow, God of War III is doing well.

  • 0
Supercoop (on 15 November 2009)

its likely we'll start seeing numbers once it gets a release date

  • 0
Rei (on 15 November 2009)

Things arent looking good for FFXIII, if these numbers are to be believed.

  • 0
Dark Odin (on 15 November 2009)

so maybe MAG won´t be taking the top spot... if GoW 3 increases that much again.

  • 0
Fab_GS (on 15 November 2009)

YAY @ Final Fantasy XIII

  • 0
donsterydo2 (on 15 November 2009)

I wish L4D2 to sell 800k first week, but the franchise is too weak outside US. Good increase in preorders.

  • 0
DirtyP2002 (on 15 November 2009)

Valve said that the preorders for L4D2 are 400% of L4D. Insane.

I want to see Alan Wake in this chart.

  • 0
darthdevidem01 (on 15 November 2009)

  • 0
darthdevidem01 (on 15 November 2009)

WTF @ God of war 3 increase?

someone explain!

  • 0
psrock (on 15 November 2009)

MAG is going to be the #1 pre-ordered game next week, just crazy. God of War is close though.

  • 0
Boutros (on 15 November 2009)

God of War Collection is kind of low...

It needs to sell good if we want to see more PS2 port.

  • 0
SaviorX (on 15 November 2009)

NSMB selling between 800-850k first week falls exactly in line with what I predicted. I just wonder if the other regions will follow suit (620k in Japan{} 352k in EU/Others)
