PlayStation CEO Has 'Nothing to Say About' God of War Sequel Exclusivity

PlayStation CEO Has 'Nothing to Say About' God of War Sequel Exclusivity - News

Sony's next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, launched last week in select countries and on Thursday, November 19 will release it in Europe and the rest of the world.

Several high-profile games - Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure - for the PS5 also released for the PlayStation 4. Another upcoming PS5 title, Horizon Forbidden West, will also be getting a release on the PS4. This has lead to some speculation that the God of War sequel might also get a release on the PS4.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with The Telegraph was asked if the God of War sequel would be a PS5 exclusive or not and he responded with, "Sorry. I’ve got nothing to say about that today."

It is possible Sony is still deciding if the game will also launch on the PS4 or not, or if they are still testing to see if it is even possible to have the game run well on the PS4.

The God of War sequel will launch in 2021 for at least the PS5.

In other words it's coming to PS4. There's no reason to plead the 5th unless the question that was asked has truth to it.

Not necessarily, but it sounds like Sony is definitely at the very least considering a PS4 version. Who knows, if PS5 sells well enough, it might actually be exclusive to PS5. That said, a PS4 version does seem fairly likely.

"Considering" is being generous. The decision to develop for PS4 or not would be made fairly early in development, "let's see how PS5 sells in next year" doesn't magically let them deliver a PS4 version of a game if they never considered PS4 in it's development. If they planned and developed PS4 version, throwing away that work for nothing isn't really a likely decision... And more importantly to people who want a "pure nextgen exclusive", doesn't actually make the game more "pure nextgen" since it would have been developed for PS4 portability all along even if they hypothetically decided to only release it for PS5. And not releasing what is fundamentally a crossgen game on PS4 just to look like they are flexing on "puer nextgen" is just stupid.

Not releasing it on PS4 is basically throwing away millions of sales.

They've said the transition will take 3 years. The fact is they're not going to sacrifice sales, there over 100million ps4s out there and much less Ps5s and it'll be the case for years.

He may as well imply a PC port XD. Welp, it sounds like they’ll most likely make a PS4 version

If Sony began the development of the game on PS4, it wouldn't make sense to axe it half-way through. Yes, It wouldn't take full advantage of the PS5 hardware if it was cross-gen, but I have no doubt it will still look and play great.

I think that means it is coming to PS4, until official information says it is PS5 exclusive I'll keep it as crossgen in mind and be ready to disappointing hold back due to it.

If they make both versions, I hope that the PS5 is going to be the main development platform so that the game won't be held back in any way. This game deserves the full glory of the new system.

Honestly, if they release a PSVR2 in next 2 years that may be some of 1st "pure nextgen" games they do.
Or they may do some "pure nextgen" indy/AA stuff that is cheaper and faster to develop?

A good game will sell very, very well, no matter if it is exclusive or not. BUT: An exclusive game will also sell many units of hardware. How many exceptionally well performing games exlusive for new hardware are needed for people to get it.

Now here ... Mr. Jim Ryan is wrong. This needs to be PS5 ONLY. The old champion the Sony PS4 has seen its glory days. A new king has the throne now.
