Microsoft to Announce 'Another Big Reason to Get Game Pass' in 2 to 3 Weeks, According to Source - News

Microsoft's gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has been a huge success for the company with over 10 million subscribers and still growing. The cloud streaming service, Project xCloud, will also join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on September 15 at no additional cost.

VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb via Twitter says Microsoft will make announcement in the next two to three weeks that will give people another "big reason" to get Xbox Game Pass.

"Like I said, it's going to be kind of an Xbox Month," said Grubb. "It already did the xCloud announcement, and Phil already showed up on the Samsung Galaxy thing. Should still expect to see more about Xbox Series S and yet another big reason to get Game Pass in the next 2-to-3 weeks."

He added that it isn't any specific game or anything similar to that and provided an example that Cyberpunk 2077 isn't coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch.

"It's not any specific game or anything like that," said Grubb. "For example, Cyberpunk is not coming to Game Pass at launch."

Nobody, besides Microsoft, knows if Gamepass actually turns a profit yet. So calling it a success is premature.

There's more to success than simple profits. If it gains a significant userbase in a timely matter, it can be turned into a longterm profit later.

There was a whole thread on that topic. Even with a massive userbase Gamepass seems unlikely to turn a profit. See the thread titled "What will Sony do to counter Gamepass"

Keep dreaming Zero. This post outlines why it probably can't be profitable, and multiple users agreed with it. https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9188736

Nine randos on the internet agreeing with something doesn't prove it's true. Not saying it's not, but that's really poor evidence.

Also that post is fundamentally wrong. Game budgets typically nowhere near hollywood's major releases. People think they are because a lot of places that report on this suck.

The highest game budget is estimated to be GTAV. That had a budget of 265 million, but that included its marketing budget. When movie budgets are listed they generally do not include marketing budgets. This is about the same as Age of Ultron's production budget, which does not include the marketing budget, which could easily have been another 1-200 million or even more.

So the post is wrong on a fundamental fact that would completely alter the analysis, and regardless of how many likes the post got, it should not be taken as evidence of any sort.

Well, feel free to post that in the thread, because I'm not going to debate it here in the comments.

I suspect Series S is going to be a fully streaming platform, similar to Stadia, and that is why the Game Pass announcement will happen at probably the same time.

This also covers why there will be a change to Game Pass - likely they're going to be introducing something big to make it sufficient for covering a fully game-streaming platform.

But Gamepass isn't primarily a streaming service.

If the rumors of the Series S launched at $199 and making it diskless and digital only.... would be a HUGE push for Game Pass and Microsoft's strategy. Seeing that cheap entry point will be a motivating factor for a lot people.

@jweincom - What I'm saying is that I suspect the change to Game Pass is going to be something along the lines of larger integration with xCloud than previously announced, and likely intended to push Series S, which I anticipate to be a cloud gaming platform. Given that xCloud is due to launch only a couple weeks after this supposed announcement, the timing lines up nicely. Given that there's also very little Microsoft could logically do for this "series S" console, the logic lines up nicely. Given that Microsoft is known to be working on a cloud service, the controller leak shows it's intended to be used with PC Game Pass, Xbox consoles, AND xCloud, the strategy lines up nicely.

I don't know what specifically it is they have in plan for Game Pass, but given all the above, it makes sense that it would have to do with the Series S announcement, and Series S being a cloud gaming platform makes the most sense.

That's just not how I'd interpret it. I'm also not really sure what you mean by fully streaming platform. Unless you mean something like a 50-100 dollar Roku kind of thing which would be kind of surprising to me. Seems like that'd be taking away one of the benefits of Gamepass over something like Stadia.

if gamepass is microsofts priority i don't see the reason as to why they still make a new powerful console,
dont make "the most powerful/fastest console" just stick with series s and get loads of sale if its in a bundle
