Final Fantasy VII Remake is a Minimum of 100 GB - News

Square Enix previously announced Final Fantasy VII Remake is shipping "far earlier than usual to Europe and Australia." This is due to the difficulty of doing a global launch on the same day in the current global climate with the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The game has now arrived early in the mail for some people who pre-ordered it. On of them, Twitter user @RedMakuzawa, has posted an image of the physical copy of the game's Deluxe Edition. The back of the box revealed the install size of the game is "100 GB minimum."

Here is an overview of the game:

Rebuilding and expanding upon the legendary RPG for today, Final Fantasy VII Remake tells the story of a world fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic adventures that await him.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will launch for the PlayStation 4 on April 10.

Why isn't this marketed as Episode 1? It's definitely not the full game compared to the original, which I would expect if I read Final Fantasy VII Remake.

RIght, I hear this ends when they leave Midgar. Relatively speaking, it just a fraction of the original game's story. I imagine it will still have a lot of content though.

However, is the sequel going to have significantly more content in comparison?

Agreed.

Because they feel they'll sell more copies that way. Duh.

  1. It's not a episode. If you want to call a 100GB game an episode, I wonder what you call a 40GB game.

  2. Did FF13 need to say part 1 or "episode 1" on the box? Same for Xenosaga.

It's really amazing how some people perceive things.

@deskpro I don't think that size has anything to do with this, honestly. And for the FF13 comparison, those games were developed from 0 after the main game released, so this is not a fair comparison. In all honesty, it does feel a bit tricky on Squares side to release it this way, even though the gameplay time will be far less than what the original had on offer. I loved the demo, and I get it, why they are making it this way, but an Episode 1 on the box would have been the correct way to proceeed with this one.

Xenosaga did say episode 1 on the box.

Eh?? FF13 was developed with parts in mind. When you beat the first game you'd know it wasn't done yet. The development team even compared FF7R multipart game as like the FF13 trilogy since 2015..

I mentioned Xenosaga because each part was a full game, at full price. Not a telltale.
