Nintendo Switch Online Tops 15 Million Subscribers - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 March 2020 / 2,746 ViewsNintendo announced during their latest financial results briefing the number of paid Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have surpassed 15 million worldwide.
With worldwide sell-through sales of the Nintendo Switch over 48 million through December 2019, that would mean nearly one-third of Switch owners have paid for Nintendo Switch Online.
"One more point to mention is the more than 15 million accounts worldwide with a paid membership to Nintendo Switch Online, and those sales occupy a certain presence within our digital sales," said said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.
"But while new members continue to join, there are also those who do not renew their memberships. We will continue to enhance the appeal of the service to bring more features and more fun to Nintendo Switch."

Improve your damn services Ninty. I love you but you suck in this department. What are we paying you for?
$20 for a crappy service. With no free games. To get the ONLY feature that allows you to take your saves off your switch. Well the ones that Nintendo lets you do which is leaving you fearful that your switch may break while playing something like Animal Crossing.
Sure I'll take that trade. I'll pay more. They improve their service, give away free games monthly, and let me save ALL my damn games.
Most likely wont renew next year. I dont expect to be still playing splatoon by then. Unless the online for Animal Crossing is addicting.
The figure includes family subscriptions where theoretically up to eight accounts on one and the same Switch console can be subscribed, so it's not 15m unique Switch owners who are subscribed to Switch online like the article suggests. Likewise, you won't be able to make a good revenue estimate based on the figure Nintendo provides either, because there's no way to know how many of those 15m subscribed accounts have paid for an individual subscriptions and how many of them are part of a family cluster. It gets even more complicated when you consider that family subscriptions can be spread across up to eight different consoles that don't even have to be located in one and the same country.
Still a member, but they need to step up! Get more games on the SNES and NES service and ffs please add GB, GBC and GBA.
The online user base only being 1/3 of the total Switches out there isn't great - especially if they have people already not renewing. I think this proves they really need to add more to the service other than just cloud saves, NES/SNES games and Tetris 99. It needs to run more efficiently (how they haven't sorted this out yet is beyond me!) and add N64 games on there as well as trophies. I don't personally care about the latter but many others do care about getting online achievements.
I tried it for a while and got Smash Ultimate's online achievements, but since I rarely play multiplayer titles I didn't go back to it.
