Sony Santa Monica Teases God of War Sequel - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 16 January 2020 / 2,160 Views

God of War developer Sony Santa Monica Studio has teased a sequel to the hugely successful PlayStation 4 game. Kim Newman, the God of War narrative animator, posted an image of herself via Twitter in a motion capture suit with the text "Feels good to be back in the suit. @SonySantaMonica."

It will likely be a while before we get an official announcement for a sequel to God of War. The game will likely be an exclusive to the PlayStation 5.

Here is an overview of the 2018 God of War game:

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus behind him, Kratos now lives in the realm of Norse deities and monsters.

It’s in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive, and not only teach his son to do the same… but also prevent him from repeating the Ghost of Sparta’s bloodstained mistakes.

This staggering reimagining of God of War combines all the hallmarks of the iconic series – brutal combat, epic boss fights and breathtaking scale – and fuses them with a powerful and moving narrative that re-establishes Kratos’ world.

God of War launched for the PlayStation 4 on April 20, 2018.

Thanks PushSquare.

People hoping for another God of War game but in reality it's PlayStation All-stars Battle Royale 2.

I'm ready for the next one on PS5.

My main issue with the previous game was some of the enemies had the same kill button animation. Those giant guys that appeared a few times for example. Would have liked some more variety. Also one or 2 boss fights were lacking. But the opening fight was amazing.

It's possible that this new god of war will be both for ps4 and ps5, not too dissimilar to persona 5, metal gear solid 5, Yakuza Kiwami, let's presume it will be released 2022, just like in late 2015 and 2016

I didn't like the new direction, but plenty of people did, so they'll be happy with this sequel.

The first hour, I didn't like the new direction, then after I realize that it was the best GOW game ever. And one of the best I have ever played.

I am one of them. It was the first game that made me pay out for a PS. Seems likely the sequel will be enough for me to get a PS5.

I was pleased with the new direction. It's deeper and more mature. The old pattern was really staring to repeat itself, things need to evolve.

@Dante9 I disagree on both counts. The old games already were deep and mature and there was nothing wrong with the hack and slash gameplay of the originals. Things could've evolved by adding different weapons and powers and not outright switching the genre.

That being said I realise that I'm in a minority of people who didn't like these changes.
