The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

PlayStation 4 Vs. Wii Global:

Gap change in latest month: 508,601 – PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 4,207,355 – PS4

Total Lead: 3,601,888 – Wii

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 84,896,463

Wii Total Sales: 88,498,351

October 2018 is the 60th month that the PlayStation 4 has been available for. During the latest month the gap grew in favor of the PS4 when compared with the Wii during the same timeframe. The gap decreased by 508,601 units in the last month and by 4.21 million units in the last 12 months. The Wii currently leads by 3.60 million units.

Both consoles launched in November. The Wii launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 84.90 million units, while the Wii sold 88.50 million units during the same timeframe.

The fact the ps4 can attempt to rival the wii in total sales is absolutely astounding if it did manage to surpass it that would be like the biggest comeback of all time from one gen to another

For now, the Wii is the greatest comeback. 5 years from now, we'll be calling the Switch the greatest comeback.

Would it, though? A PS3 selling a mere 20% better would have outsold the Wii.

PS4 will outsell the wii and make more profit than it being a stronger graphics console with a higher price tag even the wii dropped to 100 dollars something the ps3 never did and the ps4 never will

the ps4 is a beast but that i will make more money than the wii is debatable. Nintendo made a profit on every wii from the begining while sony sells hardware at a loss at first and make it up in software sales. on software nintendo 1st party titles keep their price longer too.
