Here is the Complete Press Release:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., February 24, 2009 – At its annual retail and publisher conference Destination PlayStation®, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced its unprecedented line up for PSP®(PlayStation®Portable), including a new hardware offering that extends the PSP market to young female gamers, the debut of blockbuster franchises MotorStorm® and LittleBigPlanet™ on the platform, and major software support from Disney Interactive, Electronic Arts, MTV Games, Square Enix, Ubisoft, and other publishing partners.

“With a year of record sales ushering us into the new year, we continue to raise the bar on providing consumers the deepest and broadest entertainment content for every member of the family to enjoy,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “With new content being added every day to the PlayStation Network combined with an unmatched line up of exclusive titles on PSP, and the roll out of truly groundbreaking games such as Killzone® 2 for PS3, we remain confident in our approach and strategy for another record year of growth and momentum.”

SCEA also previewed its deepest and broadest content line up for the PS3 system, including groundbreaking exclusives such as Killzone® 2, inFamous, MLB®’09: The Show™, MAG, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves and God of War® III to hit throughout the fiscal year. Promising to be a blockbuster hit, Killzone 2’s immersive and sensory gameplay sets the stage for PlayStation’s continued momentum on the PS3 this year, accompanied by truly innovative and genre-defying content such as MAG, the industry’s first online shooter to allow up to 256 players, combined with artistic and niche games like Flower™ and Ragdoll Kung Fu™: Fists of Plastic on PlayStation®Network.

With a rapidly growing install base, the PSP platform is riding a wave of momentum that will be paired with a new hardware offering and its best software line up to date, demonstrating significant support from SCEA’s publishing partners. Two new limited-edition PSP Entertainment Packs will be available in 2009, bundling everything consumers need to jump onto the PSP platform, from the hardware to games, videos, and other content – all for $199.99 (MSRP).

• Hannah Montana PSP Entertainment Pack – As part of a new focus on expanding the PSP market to female gamers, SCEA will launch this new bundle in July. The pack includes the introduction of the “Lilac” PSP system, Disney Interactive’s Hannah Montana PSP game (an exclusive dancing and rhythm action game for gamers to design the show and go on tour as the teen icon), a selection episodes from the Hannah Montana TV series on UMD, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and stickers to customize the PSP.
• Assassin’s Creed™ PSP Entertainment Pack – Ubisoft will debut an exclusive installment of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise on PSP later this year. To commemorate this highly anticipated title, SCEA will launch a new bundle that includes the game, a “Piano Black” PSP, and other content that will be announced later.

SCEA’s push toward teen and “tween” girl gamers will also be supported by Ubisoft’s Petz® software line, which will make its debut on PSP with new, unique titles later this year. The Petz series allows young players to create and care for cute, furry pets chosen from many different breeds of dogs, cats, horses, hamsters, dolphins, tigers and bunnies.

Publisher support for the PSP system will continue throughout the year with Rock Band Unplugged™, launching exclusively on PSP. MTV Games and Harmonix announced separately that gamers will be able to take Rock Band Unplugged on the road with the first ever portable version of the popular music and gaming experience. Rock Band Unplugged will take center stage as it leverages the PSP system’s Wi-Fi capabilities and becomes the first PSP game to include a fully-featured in-game store for downloadable content in the North American and Europeans markets.

The third party support for PSP will continue throughout the year with a stellar line up of titles from EA SPORTS. Madden NFL 10 will enable NFL fans to build their own formations and plays from scratch on the PSP. Then, through connectivity with the PS3, the plays can be downloaded and perfected on the console. In addition, Madden NFL 10 will deliver a faster and more “PSP-friendly” gameplay experience to adapt to the PSP owner’s lifestyle. And for the golf fans out there, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 10 will allow gamers to experience the drama of major golf tournaments with revamped gameplay modes for on and offline play. Look for more EA SPORTS titles to be announced for the PSP this year.

Rounding out the unprecedented publisher support, Square Enix’s DISSIDIA™ FINAL FANTASY, which has sold 850,000 units since launching before the holidays in Japan, will make its way to North America this summer.

From a first party perspective, SCEA will bring its biggest franchises from the PS3 to the PSP this year, starting with MotorStorm® Arctic Edge and LittleBigPlanet™ in Fall 2009. These titles will be built from the ground up for PSP, offering users a unique portable experience based on the critically acclaimed franchises. Following are details for each game:

• LittleBigPlanet – Developed in conjunction with MediaMolecule, the critically acclaimed game LittleBigPlanet makes its way to the PSP, offering new SackBoy™ adventures with the same play, create, share experience for gamers on-the-go, in addition to brand new levels and environments specifically created for the platform.

• MotorStorm Arctic Edge – Developed by the award-winning Bigbig Studios, the team behind the best-selling Pursuit Force™ series, MotorStorm Arctic Edge sees the music, the festival and the brutal off-road racing arrive in the breathtaking yet lethal and unpredictable setting of Alaska. The game is also expected to hit the PlayStation 2 platform in Fall of 2009.

As the connective tissue of the PlayStation experience across the PS3 and PSP systems, SCEA announced continued PlayStation Network content from new movie releases through the video delivery service and new game spaces for PlayStation®Home. Launching this week, the new “Warhawk™ Command Center” space makes its way into PlayStation Home offering Warhawk fans a new place to socialize and strategize featuring the sand table. PlayStation Home is the ultimate social community gathering gamers via a rich, 3D high-definition environment and will continue to expand overtime.

This is good news for ppl who doesnt have a ps3 and want a taste of some of it´s good franchise titles. Unfortunately these watered-down half-assed portable version are almost always disapointing..

This is the kinda of year that Sony and PSP especially needs. I really don't know how I'm going to afford all the playstation content I want. Might have to get that second job that Kutaragi was trying to get people to do years ago. lol.

  • 0
Tridrakious (on 25 February 2009)

Well the PSP 3000 has a built in mic. So the singing would be covered for that, but not every PSP owner has a 3000 series. So if Sony wants to really benefit from this game. They need to make a Rock Band Unplugged PSP Entertainment Pack.
Damn that is a long title for a not gonna happen bundle.

The guitar and bass can be handle with the exsisting buttons. As for the drums. I don't see how they can even try to simulate actual drumming. Unless they launch a PSP 4000 series where the screen is also a touchscreen and if that was the case then they would have to replace my 3000 series bundle for a 4000 series bundle.

woooo that is a mouthful a if's.

  • 0
Onyxmeth (on 25 February 2009)

@Aj-Really? Then I don't even see how it's remotely possible to get a fun, working Rock Band that even resembles the original at all on the PSP. I can't wait to see what the hell they have planned though, because if anything it'll be fun to laugh at.

  • 0
Aj_habfan (on 25 February 2009)

There are no peripherals for it.

  • 0
Onyxmeth (on 25 February 2009)

The ones I'm interested in mostly are Motorstorm the most and LBP a little bit. I don't even see how Rock Band is possible but I suppose we'll see. How do you handle having guitar, microphone and drum peripherals on a tiny little handheld, even if it's only one at a time? That seems like a title that was much more suited to the DS where a guitar peripheral already exists, as does a microphone, and the only challenge would have been the drumming(touch screen?).

Looks like they are just bringing some of their best PS3 games to the PSP. Games like LBP and DISSIDIA™ FINAL FANTASY will be a must have. Who's going to waste their time with Hannah Montana or Petz though? At least Sony is starting the year off right with this annoucement. We'll see what else they have planned at the E3.

LittleBigPlanet PSP. Wow! " Klonoa PSP!" "Persona PSP!" Japan see.. 2009?

  • 0
drakesfortune (on 25 February 2009)

Wow, I think there are more games coming out for PSP this year that I'll buy than last. A week ago I thought PSP was for sure dying this year, and now I'm happy to be a PSP owner. This year I'll probably pick up: Loco Roco 2, Prinny, Motorstorm, Patapon 2, Resistance Ret, Persona PSP, LBP, and possibly Rock Band (we'll have to see what it is) and Dissidia FF.

That's actually a really solid and varied lineup for the year. Way to go Sony. I'm afraid it'll sell for crap though (piracy).

You could literally tweak and add to your levels wherever you go, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Hopefully they announce their plans with the "PSP 4000" or whatever they are cooking up, I definitely need to be getting one of these now.

I don't understand why people hate on the PSP either. It's a great device that is going to be staller in 2009.

  • 0
nitekrawler1285 (on 25 February 2009)

Rock Band can work with a USB peripheral attached to the top to add guitar buttons along the top of the PSP.

Why does everyone always hate on the PSP? They act as if having most of the major franchises from the best gaming system ever on the go is a bad thing. It's not like Nintendo isn't guilty of the same thing.

I wonder how much space these titles will take up if i decide to go the download route since I will be able to do so legally now.?

  • 0
TheSource (on 25 February 2009)

The focus on girl gamers is very interesting to me. I wonder how they plan to pursue it? Very few games seems to appeal to women and men in large numbers. Guitar Hero, Rockband, Singstar/Buzz/etc, Pokemon/Nintendogs type stuff, RPGs, puzzlers and 2D platformers seem to be the main areas of overlap.

"I wish sony would stop piggybacking all the ps3 games onto the psp. The system needs something unique to appeal to a handheld market."

In a perfect world. Not many people are buying the Locoroco's and Patapons. If this is what the market wants, I don't see the problem - These franchises are big for a reason.

I don't understand the people that are attacking PSP for having well known highly successful franchises being developed for their handheld. Every company who has had a highly successful franchise on consoles and also happens to have a handheld has brought their highly successful franchise to that handheld.

Nintendo's been doing it for how long now? And if Microsoft made a handheld, don't you think they would have Halo on that device to help boost sales?

Sony has done brand new IP for the PSP. LocoRoco, Patapon, Pursuit Force, Field Commander, Untold Legends, etc. But they didn't fly off the shelves. So please just back off the system. You people complain when the system gets nothing (which is understandable, but if you don't have the system then why the hell are you complaining), but then when the system gets a massive release list like it has this year you complain that it's getting ?mimi me" version of a PS2 or PS3 game. As for the people saying "this might make me get one". Well if what the system has currently and the stuff it's getting this year haven't swayed you to get the system. Then you won't ever get the system. So if you don't have something positive to add to this impressive article about the rebirth of this once struggling system. Then please people, just shut the hell up.

  • 0
Baggins (on 24 February 2009)

This isn't news. I have a PSP and the only good game of recent times is Prinny. There are no heavy hitters on the horizon except for Resistence and that will be crap as it's an FPS which the PSP won't handle well with its analogue stick.

This just declares that 3 games will be released in 2009.

sorry for not being amazed!

  • 0
zexen_lowe (on 24 February 2009)

As if there weren't enough games that make me want a PSP, now I have to add LBP, Rock Band and the today-confirmed Persona remake. I have to get a PSP, no doubt about it...

Even if I won't buy a PSP (yeah I'm already pleased with my DS) this is great news for PSP owners.

Looks like i'll be using my PSP for more than just Resistance: Retribution!

Orca_Azure (on 24 February 2009)

Dissidea and Agito are going to be nice additions to the the psp lineup.

I wish sony would stop piggybacking all the ps3 games onto the psp. The system needs something unique to appeal to a handheld market.

  • 0
cool48 (on 24 February 2009)

Very nice, Sony is really doing a good job lately of giving us great reasons to buy their products.

Assasin's Creed port for Wii confirmed......Anyway good day for PSP owners and good move by Sony's part to release a LBP game for the PSP.

KBG29 (on 24 February 2009)

This all shows promise, but I am done with PSP until they get the buisness model right. I will no longer buy UMD's, so until Sony gets all games on PSN, PSP is dead to me as a game handheld.

Dallinor (on 24 February 2009)

Those are some big titles/franchises. All announced in a single day! Amazing. I thought Sony would keep stuff like this until E3.

  • 0
Zones (on 24 February 2009)

@Paperdiego,

Just becasue there are games on PS3/PS2 with the same name doesn't mean they are the same. I mean, there are two God of War games on PS2, but does that mean God of War: Chains of Olympus is the same?

  • 0
wenlan (on 24 February 2009)

I like the Lilac version of PSP, wish SCEA will release the stand alone version.

  • 0
PostModGuru (on 24 February 2009)

Hannah Montana psp is the most uncool handheld that will ever hit the market! I am in my mid twenties and don't know any bird that doesn't despise that little girl. You have to be really hard up to target the tween girl market...

  • 0
naznatips (on 24 February 2009)

I'm interested in AC, but not LBP or Motorstorm much. Not portable versions anyway.

  • 0
zztopp (on 24 February 2009)

I dont need to play watered down version of these game. I already own them on the PS3. This has been the problem with the PSP since its inception; mini-me version of console titles, little in the way of unique games. Thats why the DS will always be handheld king.

You're right Chrizum, this is a proper Megaton!

  • 0
Chrizum (on 24 February 2009)

Wow, I'm surprised the reactions here are so mellow. This is a megaton if there ever was one!

LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed, Motorstorm and Rock Band on the PSP all in one year? Might need to get a PSP now...

  • 0
Lostplanet22 (on 24 February 2009)

Nice very nice....And they are even making PS2 games motorstorm!

  • 0
Procrastinato (on 24 February 2009)

These western titles, plus all the new Japanese PSP games, JRPGs, etc... making the PSP look mighty attractive these days.

I actually kinda like that shiny color. If it came in gold I would score one (another one) immediately.

makingmusic476 (on 24 February 2009)

LittleBIGPlanet PSP!

I'm glad I already have a PSP (got it by chance a month ago), but if I didn't, that would've made me buy one!

@ Paperdiego, ..
"really what is the point of the psp if all the games on it i can play on ps2 or ps3.."

..thats what some people say with Xbox360 with most of their games on PS3 or PC yet Xbox360 still sells more.

  • 0
Bobbuffalo (on 24 February 2009)

Rock band in psp? how they could do that?

Seems that sony will focus more and more on the PSP than on the PS3..but hey who can blame them?

  • 0
luisgvm (on 24 February 2009)

thats a good line up for 09¡¡¡.

  • 0
snyperdud (on 24 February 2009)

I've thoguht about gettin a PSP for a while.
Now I might actually get one.

  • 0
averyblund (on 24 February 2009)

Nice to hear the PSP is getting some promising games. Sony has never put in the effort they should have.

  • 0
Paperdiego (on 24 February 2009)

what i dont understand is why sony keeps making making that i can play better on consoles.. makes games worth owning a psp for.

really what is the point of the psp if all the games on it i can play on ps2 or ps3..
god

PSP = Best handheld.

  • 0
TWRoO (on 24 February 2009)

@axumblade... that's a Japan only colour DS and to me it is one of the nicest colours, one I would actually consider buying if there weren't the ice blue options.

But then this is what having different colours is about, I think the bi-colour DSs that you Americans get (red/black and blue/black) look hideous, but many on here seem to like them.

  • 0

@smokedhostage:

You know, you don't have to always find fault with something that Sony is releasing. Especially when the DS has that godawful metallic rose DS.

Nvm, Staude beat me.

That is what I get for leaving my comment on screen without hitting the "post" button for the last 5 minutes. -.-

  • 0
Euphoria14 (on 24 February 2009)

@TWRoO

I believe that was the PSP that came in the God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP Bundle.

  • 0
Staude (on 24 February 2009)

^the red one was the kratos psp.

Also i think the black one is awesome. Awesome stuff.

  • 0
Zones (on 24 February 2009)

The deep red was packed with the limited God of War: Chains of Olympus bundle only, and it's not available anymore.

  • 0
TWRoO (on 24 February 2009)

I like that colour PSP... looks better than white or silver.

There was a deep red one that looked really nice, not sure if it is available here or in the US (or may have been a limited one) but:

deep red > black > lilac > white > silver (although there are a number of Japanese only colours I have ignored for this shortlist)

  • 0
Gamerace (on 24 February 2009)

Glad to see Sony finally pushing the PSP again.

And as a DS owner, to all you PSP owners - now you too can enjoy all those games with a 'Z'. You're welcome.

Actually, pushing for the girl's tween market is a good idea as they are less likely to pirate. Be hysterical if PSP ends up with a 80% girl library because of it though.

  • 0
V-r0cK (on 24 February 2009)

@ smokedhostage, you'd be suprised how many gurls would like that color PSP and anything Hanna Montana little gurls would go crazy for.
