Next year November's the turning point for the PS4 I guess

hmm...I'm not sure if PS4 will ever surpass the Wii. However, I do think it'll be close. Perhaps 85-100 million lifetime sales?

Barkley hershel_layton (on 02 December 2016)

I think it's very likely that it will outsell the Wii.

You need to look at Wii's later years, i.e. starting around the end of it's 4th year on the market. It basically fell off at that point, and with PS4 really hitting a huge stride for AAA exclusives in the next couple years, it's going to pick up some serious steam. PS4 will have no problem selling upwards of 120 million.

The last few years were not kind to the Wii. It will definitely surpass the PS3 and 360, but the Wii will be close

tough to say really. Not sure if the PS4's releases slated for next year are really better than what they had in 2016 and people should recall that the PS3 had a big resurgence and sold really well later in its lifetime

PS4 will definately outsell Wii LTD. Even PS3 is just 15 million behind Wii. PS4 is selling 2x fast than PS3.

mountaindewslave NSS7 (on 02 December 2016)

you should look at late year PS3 sales though, its not a given that (percentage wise) PS4 will retain sales as well as the PS3 did

it came out of the gates very poorly (the PS3) the first year or two and then did surprisingly well later on (I think mostly due to the fact that the PS2 was still getting plenty of solid releases up through the mid/late 2000s, making people hold off on the expensive PS3 purchase at the time)

point I'm making is that the PS3 did well its last few years, proportionately speaking its not a sure thing if the PS4 will too. It had a much better start though, sure

The PS3 didn't had a bad start. It was selling millions more, with a price tag of 600US$, than the Xbox One is.

Wii's first years were absolutely beastly, everyone and their grannie wanted a Wii!

  • +3
DialgaMarine Ganoncrotch (on 02 December 2016)

Basically. Wii was a real oddity for LT sales. It was killing to PS2 by a huge margin in it's first few years.

Eagle367 Ganoncrotch (on 02 December 2016)

Don't worry the next years are no joke either 20mil 17 13 11 7 5 3 0.6 so at least three more huge years ahead considering it sold 11mil in its 6th year

  • 0
DialgaMarine Ganoncrotch (on 02 December 2016)

Wii also had almost no major games following it's peak year. Most of it was just shovelware after that. PS4 isn't going to hit that same decline.

We'll see its all speculation at this point. A lot of unknowns can shift the paradigm

I'm really not sure why saying that is getting thumbed down. PS4 will outsell the Wii. That's just fact.

  • 0
Eagle367 Nintation360 (on 02 December 2016)

I don't think so. I think the PS$ will reach 95 million at best but we'll see. It might even get lower

  • -1
DialgaMarine Nintation360 (on 02 December 2016)

Why do you think so? PS4 will easily be at 55 million by year's end, and next year is probably going to be it's peak year, so I don't see why it won't be over 75 million by Holiday 2017

  • 0
Eagle367 Nintation360 (on 02 December 2016)

Sorry but not happening. The Wii sold 24mil+ this year aligned and I don't think the ps4 will match that this year. I also dont think that ps4 will sell 25 mil next year perhaps 21mil but we'll see since it'll have some competition next year unlike this year. But I think this will be the peak not the next year the next year might be equal to this year most probably

  • -2
mountaindewslave Nintation360 (on 02 December 2016)

Dialga- its complete speculation that next year will be the PS4's peak year. Hard to say especially with the Switch coming out (like it or not, any new system takes a portion of sales from everybody else)

considering the X-One struggling earlier in the year and the Wii U being dead, 2016 may very well be the PS4's peak year.

You also have to keep in mind that there have been rumors that Sony will possibly try to release another gen of the Playstation by like 2020

if more concrete information comes out in the next few years regarding that possibiilty it might halt sales.

  • +3
Eagle367 (on 02 December 2016)

I checked the previous years charts and the Wii has a lot of life left in it. 24+mil this year aligned 20+mil next year then 17mil then 13 mil then 7mil then 5mil then 2mil finally 0.6mil so the ps4 has a long battle ahead since I know that it can't beat the Wii this year or the next or the one after that

JWeinCom Eagle367 (on 03 December 2016)

The Wii had a fairly normal sales pattern, despite how often people want to claim differently.

  • 0
Eagle367 Eagle367 (on 03 December 2016)

The pattern was normal but the numbers were insane. If it had the ps2's life it would have been at 180mil or something

Still?! O_O

GProgrammer (on 02 December 2016)

Next quarter will be a net positive one for the Wii but after that its all one way traffic for the PS4.
Wii 2009 Fiscal = 25 Million, this is the Peak Year
Wii 2010 Fiscal = 20 Million, 36 Months is halfway through this
Wii 2011 Fiscal = 15 Million
Wii 2012 Fiscal = 9 Million
Wii 2013 Fiscal = 4 Million

  • 0
Eagle367 GProgrammer (on 02 December 2016)

Still that's a huge barrier to cross the s4 sales will not increase but decrease so can it sell 20 million plus in its 4th year 15million plus in its fifth and so on. I think PS4 will be in the market for a long time and that will help it cross the line if it will at all. Otherwise in equal years Wii will always win.

With Pro, Infinite Warfare, and FFXV, I think PS4 will win November.

  • 0
Eagle367 PAOerfulone (on 02 December 2016)

If it doesn't then I don't think it ever will outsell LTD of Wii sales.

  • -1
PAOerfulone PAOerfulone (on 02 December 2016)

Agreed.
Not only do I expect a PS4 win for November, I expect it to crush the Wii.
If it's a slim win or if it loses, then there's cause to pause and reconsider,
"Hmmmm, wait a minute."

JWeinCom PAOerfulone (on 03 December 2016)

The PS4 will win November, but not for the reasons you're saying.

There's been an overall consumer trend towards buying more in November and less in December than in the past. 2008 Wii and 2015 PS4 sold about the same in November, but the Wii gained a bit over a million on the PS4 in December.

For 2009, the Wii sold only 2.7 million in November. Even if the PS4 is flat YOY it should sell at the very least 500 K more. But, the Wii sold 7.3 million in December, and PS4 is unlikely to come within a million of that.

PS4 sales have been pretty flat YOY. Even if we anticipate a 25% or so boost from the PS4 Pro, the PS4 will just break even. But based on what we've seen, I don't think that PS4 is getting that kind of a boost.

Even if it wins November (which it should easily do), the Wii is probably going to make up the lost ground and then some in December.

Very true.
December 2009, that's when New Super Mario Bros. Wii launched wasn't it?
And 7.3 million in that month? Wii sold around 21 million that entire year, it did a third of it's sales in that month of December alone? Sweet Jesus Christ.

NSMB Wii launched in December in Japan, but November in the US and EU.

The PS4 is well on track to sell over 150 million console sales ltd.

If it sells at the current rate for 6 more years with no drop in sales... then sure.

Wii is more deserving console, rightly so, Wii is an even current car, while PS4 is a car of the moment, all marketing, restyling, various contraptions but very old base.
