PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Europe Lifetime Sales – September 2016 Update - Sales

Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Europe’ article. This series compares the monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

 

Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in Europe in September shows how much the PlayStation 4 has continued to dominate in Europe and has only grown its massive lead month after month. It has sold 1.88 times more units than the Xbox One and Wii U combined.

The PlayStation 4 has sold 17.93 million units lifetime in Europe, the Xbox One 6.24 million units, and the Wii U 3.30 million units.

Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 tops the other two platforms combined. The PlayStation 4 has 65 percent market share, the Xbox One sits at 23 percent, and the Wii U 12 percent.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 17,930,323

Xbox One Total Sales: 6,237,911

Wii U Total Sales: 3,295,368

 

The PlayStation 4 has outsold both the Xbox One and Wii U every month since it launched in November 2013. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U in September for the 26th straight month. The PS4 outsold the Xbox One by 234,357 units for the month and the Wii U by 401,332 units. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U by 166,975 units.

When you compare monthly sales to a year ago the Xbox One is up, while the PlayStation 4 and Wii U are down. The Xbox One is up by 25,007 units, while the PlayStation 4 is down 127,490 units and the Wii U is down 5,130 units.

Looking at market share for the month of July, the PlayStation 4 managed to achieve 63 percent. The Xbox One accounted for 30 percent of the consoles sold, and the Wii U a modest 7 percent.

PlayStation 4 Monthly Sales: 452,372

Xbox One Monthly Sales: 218,015

Wii U Monthly Sales: 51,040

This is probably the most stable region here. With Playstation leading from the beginning, XBox struggling to find a market outside of some countries, and the WiiU not really being pushed anymore, this is going to be same image for the entire gen.
