2008 was the strongest year for the Wii and it started to decline slowly in 2009. I expect the PS4 with a strong line up of games to sell more in 2016 than the Wii did in 2009,
The Wii still sold over 20 million in 2009. Unless there is a major pricecut, I don't see the PS4 reaching those levels. Its lineup is very good, but there is nothing to really reach out of their established fanbase. Sales should rise somewhat as more people get ready to switch, but I don't see a 5 million unit increase. Of course, if Morpheus comes in at a shockingly low price point that could potentially change things.
Yes, absolutely the PS4 is going to have a better leg is what I've been saying.
@JWC: Considering how stacked the PS4's lineup currently is this year, I like its chances. And with Sony's history of supporting their consoles late into their lives, I'd say it's still on track to become the second biggest home console of all time.
It has a very good chance at becoming one of the highest selling consoles...
PS4 will outsell the Wii for sure in its lifetime, its a matter of... time
Still extremely impressive. Both companies should be proud for each respective console
An interesting comparison. This year ps4 will nearly match Wii from 2009 or possibly equal it and then it will start reeling it in, hook, line and sinker.
See the difference here is that Sony hasn't missed a beat PR wise. Nintendo, on the other hand, after 2008/first half 2009 threw all good sense concerning image, PR, marketing, and lineup balancing in the bin.
Its hard to tell whos gonna win.
The ps4 wont catch the WII
Next 2 years the line will probably be more or less flat. The question is how much life will the PS4 then have when Wii seriously started to drop, especially with a potential NX release in the meantime.
Thing to remember in terms of later life legs for Playstation consoles are things like what send off games Sony gifts to the previous gen console owners, The Last of Us coming to the PS3 as its send off along with the 200 GOTY awards it received, compare that to the Wii's later life offerings of... well Nintendo getting ready to make HD content for the Wii-U more or less. There was Pandoras Tower, Xenoblade and The Last Story as an rpg send off, all 3 of which combined to have less than 2m sales tho since the core gamer had long since moved away from the system.
hell yeah! nintendo is winning!
See you at the end of the gen m8
