3DS vs DS – VGChartz Gap Charts – April 2015 Update - Sales

Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

3DS Vs. DS Global:

Gap change in latest month: 1,211,555 - DS

Gap change over last 12 months: 18,961,380 - DS

Total Lead: 42,300,973 – DS

3DS Total Sales: 52,700,064

DS Total Sales: 95,001,037

In the latest month the gap grew another 1.21 million units in favor of the DS, while the gap has grown by 18.96 million units over the last 12 months. The DS currently leads by 42.30 million units.

An important note is that the two handhelds launched at different times of the year. The DS first launched in November 2004, while the 3DS launched in February 2011. The 3DS has sold 52.70 million units in the first 51 months, while the DS sold 95.00 million units.

Looking this chartz, is easy expect XB360 >>>>>>>>>>>> XBO lifetime.
3DS and XBO is in the same scenario, both sold good and more than the daddy firsts year, but when DS/XB360 is starting to sell at beasting level, both desintagrate their predecessor...

We are comparing to Nintendo's best-selling handheld. It's still sold extremely well.

I like how it is casually mentioned that "the gap increased by 19m last year"... 19 million?! That's easily more than pretty much every console, bar a year of Wii, ever did in a year period! Let alone increase over something else! O.O

DS sold 30 million in both 2008 and 2009... dat beasting.

If the 3DS can sell the same percentage of units as the DS did in it's remaining life it may equal the sales of the GBA.

But that is unlikely.

Nintendo needs a better handheld. The "Fake" Analog is slapped on for complainer and the graphics are starting to look dated.

50 million and probabily 70 to 80 million by end of gen. is very hot for a handheld now. Is not 2009. The market is change...

The dedicated handheld market has collapsed completely and we are starting to see the same trend within the dedicated home console market.
