Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors has announced to The Wall Street Journal that its episodic game The Walking Dead has sold 8.5 million units to date. These figures are for the sales of all five episodes combined. The first episode was released in April.

"To date, it’s sold 8.5 million episodes and it’s been in the marketplace for seven months. November and December were our biggest months. It was the culmination of the product, the game of the year awards, the retail push, and it still has a ton of head room in it Apple has featured us a bunch of times for each of the episodes, and it’s in Apple’s Hall of Fame."

Connors added that about a quarter of all sales are for the iOS and that the average user has spent about $16. He also said that the iOS is the fastest growing of all the platforms right now. At least for the iOS sales are much higher when new episodes are being aired.

The Walking Dead is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS, PC, and Mac.

Why did Heavy Rain get tortured for its story driven style?
And The Walking Dead gets praised for it.

I don't remember Heavy Rain being tortured much because of that. I think both Heavy Rain and Walking Dead are less than a game. I still enjoy them, though.

What the hell are you babbling about? Heavy Rain sold well and was critically acclaimed. Its pathetic how you Sony fans always crowbar something Sony related into unrelated topics.

I haven't played Heavy Rain yet, but I'm sure it probably has something to do with The Walking Dead riding on a good wave of zombie related plots that consumers (video game players) are currently desiring. The walking Dead is filling a whole in demand while Heavy Rain was trying to tell its own original story that I don't know anything about, but I'm sure it wasn't about zombies. ;P
