Five of the games are unique for the platform, as in they are not on any other platform right now. These games are Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play, Wii Fit, and Wii Fit Plus. Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling games for the Wii, bundling games have clearly helped. Wii Sports which was a launch title, up until recently has been bundled with every Wii sold. The game has more than doubled the second closest game.

The Wii has had some of the bestselling games of all time. Wii Sports is the bestselling game of all time, due to the fact it was bundled. While of Mario Kart Wii sales were from bundles, the majority of its sales weren’t bundled. The game is the bestselling game where most of its sales weren’t bundled. I hope people realize that Wii Sports sold the Wii and not the other way around. Unlike Wii Play, where the additional controller packed in sold the game.

how can you be so sure?? I know myself and a few others, if we had the option to buy the Wii without Wii Sports we would have done so

Oni, you're a minority. SMH

probably, but that still doesnt mean you can just make broad statements, I just dont want to be lumped in with those people who did buy it for WiiSports

Defo, I thumbed you up. I think what he meant to say was that Wii sports wasn't just a bundle sale, but that it pushed many Wiis (mind you not all of 'em).

I think it was a response to Gilga.

Doom or Gloom?

And if you go to just about any casual Wii owner's house, this is essentially their entire library, plus maybe Mario Party 8 and Carnival Games or some similar mini/party game collection.

Is that a problem?

No need to be jealous, :P. That said, most casual Wii owners don't buy nearly that many games. Hell, even the attach ratio for the HD consoles ain't as high as 10-12 titles per system. Also, your statement implies that there are only 9.23m casual Wii owners at most and that all of them still own SMG and Brawl, xD.

Right, because every other game on that list aside from Galaxy and Brawl isn't popular with the casual audience. Guess it was all of those core gamers lining up in droves for Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play, etc. I'm honestly surprised none of the Guitar Hero games made it this high.

You can thank Activision for flooding the market with Guitar Hero games thus killing the franchise.

he's right, not that there really is a problem with that, its just a different kind of machine

happydolphin NightDragon83 (on 31 July 2012)

There is a problem with that, since that's not tapping into Nintendo's true potential, and neither invigorating the market with Nintendo's untapped talent. But in the end it had a massive entertainment value so that's a consolation prize.

That was a rhetorical question. There's no problem just because a certain market enjoys a different product from you. Nintendo will obviously continue to cater to both markets, since Smash Bros, Mario (which is NOT casual crap, even 2D), even Zelda and the like do sell quite well.

@the dengle pretty much yeah
@happydolphin what potential? The games sell well, these are the games that most people who bought Wii like. THey get games they want and Ninty makes money and if thats not what they want there are three other viable alternatives, again whats the issue

Oh no, I agree Oni. I was talking about the potential in depth and content, not the potential in sales.

Did you ever try the spinoff "Zak and Wiki make a porno"?

  • 0
bigjon (on 01 August 2012)

yea, I would say a majority a Wii owners 75% or more of their collection is in there. I have or had had about 2/3 of those, add it Zelda, Metriod, Tales of Symph : DOTNW, Fire Emblem and a couple more.

Nope bundle games can't count here, they never counted in the past of this site, i don't belive there's still someone that want to be evil with Nintendo, this is non-sense. Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play and Wii Fit are all game that you find only in bundles. Wii Fit Plus there's a version without the bundle so they should count only that sales. But i guess VGChartz is too lazy to do so, old times sales analysis were so detailed.
