The game oozes style, but I feel it is a bit broken in places (currently ranked 8th btw... got it a few hours ago)

I don't think it is worth full price, but it's well worth budget price (£20-25)

Riding the bike is horrid, the ranked battles are pure class, the bits inbetween are neat and entertaining.

Also I think numbers here are a lot less accurate it they're not in the top 20 or whatever so I wouldnt be surprised if the numbers were higher then what's here.

I think shipped not sold it's probably already real close to 500k

This is grasshopper and Suda51 we are talking about here.

I think with the Wii motion Plus, and hopefully a push from Suda 51 himself that a sequal can be made. Especially with all the critical praise this game has gotten it can't be that hard of a sell to publishers.

Plus like Beyond Good and Evil I think it's criminal if this game doesn't get a sequel.

How did the compnay (Ubisoft or Grasshopper) expect 500k worldwide when the last Suda game didn't pass 100k?

That doesn't make too much sense to me. Suda51 celebrated NMH's sales a few months ago with a party.
Why celebrate something selling below expectations?

I think if No More Heroes gets a sequel (which it probably will), this game will see a small sales boost whenever that sequel might come out.

It could be similar to when GTA: Liberty City Stories got a sales boost in Japan around GTA4 release time.

Bargain bin status could help it in the future as well (it's $19.99 now!)

Just because it sells 5k now, doesn't mean it will sell 5k forever.
Message | Report
jpelles posted 29/05/2008, 05:27
What are you talking about. If this only sells 5,000 a week worldwide then it will sell a 500k in 9.5 months.
And it sold 5,000 this week in America alone.

This game in lifetime sales will easily pass 500k. Not by much but it will.

Chrizum posted 29/05/2008, 12:56
How will it sell 500k? In Others, it sells less than 1.000 units a week, and it sells about 10 units a week in Japan. It's still selling 4k - 5k per week in US, but for how long?

This will never sell 500k, get real.
Message | Report
jpelles posted 28/05/2008, 04:31
By the end of this year it will definetly sell 440k at least of it sells 5000 a week world wide.

Therefore since it is a great game and will likely see a boost at various times in the year I think 500K for year ending december is very possible.

Retards who think the game loses something from "censorship". Exploding in coins fits in so much more with the style of the game than exploding with lood. This is NOT a "look how adult and gory this game is it must be for grown ups" type of game, so it doesn't matter! Buy it, it rocks!

Message | Report
Majin-Tenshinhan posted 21/05/2008, 08:46
The censoring doesn't affect the game badly at all, to be honest. I live in Sweden and I played through the EU version, and the game is just fine even without the blood. If you decide to not buy the game because of the lack of blood, you're being pretty stupid.

Woehooew... Just got it today, at the European launchdate!

The fighting and boss-battles are totally awesome... Although i was kinda bummed by the graphics... (I was just playing CoD4 on my PS3 a few minutes before i booted NMH up)... It's quite a shocker to see PS3/X360 games next to games like NMH but whatever, the game still rocks! And it's totally awesome! The graphics might not be really good but i can life with that... I still think Gamecube games look good!...

People, buy this game! Really...

--

Ohyeah, something interesting:

My store got 7 copies at launchday. I was there at 3 'o clock and i bought the fifth copy. They also said they thought they wouldn't get any new copies after 2 months after the release... That it would be quite a niche-title in time... So people, buy it... Now or never!

Right I didn't think that all profit went solely straight back to Grasshopper, but I've gotta believe with the somewhat small budget for this game it had to make some profit by now. They DID have a party and all of that.

I'm sort of disappointed with how fast the sales have dropped off. I think 400k now is more reasonable. I hoped that word would get around about this game and push some good sales, but that's not the case.

Still waiting on a third party hardcore game break-out on the Wii. I suppose the Resident Evil games are selling well. And Dragon Quest Swords (which is actually a pretty cool game) is selling alright.

sizynski : IMO the devs get ~ 20 $ / game , and the development budget was probably ~ 2-3 million . That means that at ~ 200-300k copys sold , they break even , and then its all just profit . With EU sales this game could hit LT 500k , and thats a nice little profit there :)

famousringo posted 29/02/2008, 02:57
@sizynski

Your math is a little simplified. The retailer, the publisher, and Nintendo all get a slice of that $50. It's hard to know how much of it makes it back to Grasshopper.

That being said, the break-even point for this title is probably around 200,000 units, and as Kasz says, Marvelous is already celebrating the success of this game.

Resident_Hazard posted 28/02/2008, 08:31
Europe supposedly has up to 160,000 preorders for No More Heroes. If true, it should pretty much cement the game as a bonafide Wii success and will hopefully change the minds of some developers and publishers who think that hardcore games can't sell on the system.

sizynski posted 27/02/2008, 11:03
This game has definitely made a profit and will continue to profit. I would guess the budget at around $4 or $5 million. I'm sure a lot of dev time and stuff went into it seeing as how it's a new IP and everything, but as many have stated it's not exactly the most technically polished or ambitious game ever made.

50 dollars per copy * 170,000 copies = 8.5 million dollars

And Europe hasn't been accounted for yet.

If the game had a production budget of 10-20 million then yes, it would be a flop. But it obviously was created with much less than that, so its sales are to be looked at as a relative success. This is a niche game, its not a Mario, Halo, or Zelda, 350K lifetime sales would be great, my prediction is somewhere closer to 400K. I would love to be wrong and see it sell 1mil. GO Europe, buy this beast.

@ Damstr8

'Flop' is a relative designation.

For comparison, Killer7 sold less than 300,000 units on PS2 and Gamecube combined. No More Heroes has already sold three times what Killer7 sold in Japan, will match Killer7's US sales with only 35k more units, and has yet to launch in EU.

It's set to exceed publisher and developer expectations, as well as its predecessor. It's a success, not a flop.

Lets focus on the game people.

SO I finally got this beast after my last post. I didnt know what to expect awesomeness. WOW. Just wow. I don't think you can imagine the sheer violence in the game until you actually play it. Fantastic. It always keeps an upbeat tone though. Gears of War's violence seems so much more brutal because of the music, backgrounds, etc. NMH stays goofy and aloof while you are sprinting through some dude's mansion trouncing his cronies. While you can play the game laying down with little to no movement, it is so much better standing up and readying yourself for the brutal finishing moves. I am only one boss and a few side missions in, but so far so good. Can't wait to finish all this bullshit Engineering Senior Design and get back to slashing people in half.

yeah, this game was never slated to be a million seller. What we game fanatics sometimes over look is just because we all think a game is the shit, the Jonny America's and Teddy England's of the world probably give it no thought at all. Plus, if I had a 12 year old, I would probably not buy this for him. Now if I had a 12 year old girl, different story, having a daughter that is into slicing people into pieces with a light saber sounds hilarious. Since I finally got 6 weeks worth of back paychecks (thanks Federal Government), its time for me to go out and buy this game.

All you British, buy this game, I played it at my friend's house until he kicked me out, it's fantastic. He's from the Queen's Kingdom (his expression not mine) himself and says that any true Brit will buy this game and pretend all the bad guys are French. I sort of love that idea.

Also, don't forget, this game doesn't come out in Canada until Feb.1 2008. So no canadian data included for the first week of sales in NA.

Love the game. It hit stores on wednesday the 23 remember. So it didnt have a full week of sales.

I'm curious about the sales next week since it's getting so much positive buzz and press. Overall a much better game then Killer7. Controls great and has a great story. My favorite game of 2008 so far.

It's all sorts of fun. Though way to short for my liking. Luckily there is plenty of stuff to unlock.

Its one of the most stylistic games I have ever seen. Multiple sites have said it is a must have if you are a Wii onwer. SO people dont be as foolish as they were in Japan an lets support this game.

I've had this game since the day it came out, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to play it so I'm only ranked #9 in the game. The thing that makes this game fun, to me, is that it's so over the top with the blood and all. It combines perfectly with the cell shading style and the corny dialog. It's a unique game...unlike most others, and that's what draws me to it.

You know, noticing your recent posts and comments Riot of Blood. You seem to have quite a bit of pent up anger. You should relax more and see someone about that.

Wanting to give a game a 1 just to piss people off ain't healthy.

Anyways. I after watching the original trailer in this game via TV... if that would of been travis voice for the actual game i'd of never played it. God is that voice awful.

the style makes up for the outdated graphics. The quasi-linear hack and slash nature average out the good things, and a red steel level of glitchyness and horrid collision detection drop it a little as well. Even though the main character is a gigantic douchebag (the fauxhawk should have tipped you off) The games plot is passable and it's STILL a lot of fun.

Best part is the answering machine messages he gets about the porn he rents, forgets to return, etc. The main character tries to be a pervert and hit on the ladies but the porn messages make it clear he is a virgin.

It reminds me of Dreamcast (not just cause of the graphics which are 1999 fare) but because it's still innovative, fun, and doubtful to be played by a lot of people. Don't let the glitchyness stop you from buying this short and SWEET game.

They probably didn't buy it because it's typical Suda51 faire: obscure, self-referential, and extremely violent. But it's fun, and it appears to be doing alright in the US from evidence thus far, so at least some parts of the world will appreciate it.

I gotta pick this game up today. It seems like it'll be short and since a lot of it's appeal is going to be the story not the kind of game i'd want to pick up full price... but I mean if i don't there is no gurantee i'm gonna find this thing anywhere.

It's not like I've ever seen Killer 7 anywhere used.

It will be interesting to see what US sales are, because that would make for at least 40% of its sales. I think this will reach 500k lifetime though, which is good for a Suda51 game.

well if everyone is concerned about how well it will sell in America. Get the word out there to people. Tell them about it. Tell them its something unique, different and amazing.

I am a little dissapointed about it not coming to PAL regions with blood. I blame Britian and its over sensative BS that went down with Man Hunt 2.

Ok, I've decided. I usualy don't get M rated games unless they are really good (i.e. Eternal Darkness, RE4, GTA), but after watching various videos of the japanese game on youtube, I just fell in love with the game. The humor, the combat, the awesomeness--they make this game so intriguing. Not to mention the fact that NMH is in love with being a video game.

As long as the game gets an average of 8+, I'm sold!
