2.6m (a year is almost up) is rather disappointing for what was touted as the definitive racing game of this generation. Less than 10% of 360 owners actually bought this game which is an appalling number. The move to bundle is good although it's probably the reason why there's so many "Not For Sale" copy at my local Gamestop.

mattvscott posted 21/04/2010, 10:49
As a huge Forza 3 player, designer, tuner etc I am highly disappointed with Turn 10 as they really take advantage of the user. I have been banned multiple times without cause, and the same thing happens to countless others. I am always given the excuse that they do not know why I was banned but a system error. Those buying this game for the Auction House and Storefront be prepared to be banned at some point in time. Graphics are amazing and gameplay is unreal. Online Racing is dreadful as it may take you 6 or 7 restarts to get into a lobby. Forza server needs alot of work. Those who got use to the Auction House in Forza 2 be prepared to throw it in the trash as no body uses the auction house. There are no good deals and if you happen to find a good deal you cannot sell the car for profit as the game will only let you sell it for 100 credits.

Overall I am highly disappointed in this game, and with Turn 10 as if you have a problem they are impossible to contact. When you get banned you must email forzafb@microsoft but that is a dead end. You will wait 4 months before a response.

................anyway. This game has had a serious bump in terms of users in the least few days so sales this week could very well be 400k+ plus. Over 200k people have been added in just 3 days which is simply amazing.

I assume it has to do with going to $40 as have most other games for some reason. Any ideas why that has happened?

All the big guns dropping $20 is pretty weird.

Well NPD extrapolate the market and make a very educated guess, you do know people there do this for a living right? A very good living I might add.

The Walmart estimate is included in the final numbers so no, this game is overtracked by a tremendous amount.

I have seen that this site is actually quite good with hardware sales however are terrible with software. GT PSP is overtracked so much in NA as well as are many many others.
Message | Report
RPG posted 23/12/2009, 12:29
Have you seen NPD figures? It did not even pass 250k first month let alone chart in the second. NA numbers are so badly overtracked it confuses me when people on this site attack me for saying I do not trust these numbers..........at all.

Anyway as I said before this game is being bundled to hell and back in the UK. Picked up an elite, Forza 3, Halo 3:ODST and MW:2 all for £210 a few weeks ago at GAME.

I do wish the day comes when we have chart track post numbers each month but seriously doubt it.

BTW this game is to say the least mint.

mrstickball posted 23/12/2009, 05:43
Barozi - why would FM3 be overtracked?

I mean, its stayed in or near the top 10 in the UK since its debut - and that is very, very good.

Should be well over 2m by the end of the year - that is a great success given how well FM2 did prior and post-bundles.

Speaking of Walmart, today I was buying some stuff and strolled by the electronics dept. I was floored by the large amount of copies of Forza 3 sitting there. There were copies in the front kiosk, more in the main kiosk, and more by the discount shelf. (All were $50.) I think they overestimated the demand. Good game, though.

You are missing the point and that is the PS3 , GT5 and Prologue have NOTHING to do with the 360 or Forza 3 so why even mention it here ?
Why not mention Need for speed PS3 as it is just as pointless.

And GT5 will probably never sell the amount it needs to make a profit anyway but that has nothing to do with Forza 3 either

You forgot to add the fact that Prologue is also sold through PSN as a downloadable game. In fact, it is how it got started when it was release in Japan (and other East Asian countries). The actual number is about the same as Forza 2, slightly over 4 million copies. As to FM3, my prediction is that it will sell slightly better than FM2 but nowhere near the number PD has achieved in the past with GT4 and the future with GT5. It just doesn't have the name recognition.

Who cares if its not doing nearly as well as GT5P? Lets not forget GT5P is only $30 and part of a mega popular franchise. Forza 3 is going to sell a several million and will be the best selling Xbox 360 racer.

Since you want to compare mega popular franchises. ODST has almost outsold every Sony 1st party game this gen. The only Sony games with higher sales were heavily bundled. And ODST uses mostly recycled content.

Really good sales and should hopefully have great legs but not as high a start as I was expecting. The racing genre in NA is simply dead now and nothing sells well besides Mario Kart.

I know Forza 3 and MW2 are different genres but I do think MW2 will eat into Forza 3 sales. Only so much money one might have and a choice has to be made.

That said I think GT5 was scared away by MW2 as well.....what a beast the COD franchise is now.

The userbase has nothing to do with it. Just use Resistance as an example by your logic Resistance 2 should have sold 5 million minimum since Resistance 1 sold 3.6 and was a launch title. Anyways people who say its a fail are just laughable since it has already sold over 800,000 in 2 weeks now that the US numbers are in. Which Forza 2 took 8 weeks to achieve that much.

670k isn't bad at all. But if you compare FM3 to FM2, although the number is up (1st week 500k vs 300k), you also have to remember at the time FM2 went on sale there were barely 10million 360 user base. Now it's 3 times that number.

With MW2 out in a couple of days and most of 360 owners are fans of FPS (and there's no bigger game than MW2), it will greatly affect the sales of FM3. Another thing that might've helped FM2 is that it came out at the beginning of the current console cycle and unlike then, the current market are quite saturated. Considering that the 360 user base has increased quite a bit from 2007 (when FM2 hit the market), the sales of FM3 isn't quite reflective of that.

I would call it "realistic" : US 150k, Others 100k.
I expected bigger initial sales (in Europe), but they are still good for a racing sim on a hardcore FPS console.
After 3 weeks Forza 3 will have bigger sales than Shift on PS3 after 8 weeks, pretty good IMHO.

Also people keep bringing up GT5 because 360 owners seemed to have it in there heads that Forza is better than GT. But of course it ain't. But as long as 360 owners say it is then PS3 owners will bring up gt

Honestly, I don't believe bad PSP sales are because of piracy. Most people don't even have the skill to use Windows Update let alone hack their PSP and download games.

People who own a PSP probably play HD consoles primarily. Perhaps a lot of people bought the PSP with the purpose of watching movies, playing music, etc. Its cheaper than other devices that offer those same features and it has a great screen.

I'd sooner believe many other factors than piracy.

Forza 3 will definitely outsell Forza 2 with bundling excluded. Therefore the demand of Forza has grown while Resistance did not.

Resistance on the PSP did not do great either. Most of its sales appear to be after it became $20.

GT5:P actually did 400k Europe/Others first week. FM3 will surely beat it in Americas but even there it will be around 250-300k. So a 500-550k first week is more reasonable, with a 2.5-3m lifetime. It will fall from F2 numbers if not bundled, kinda like R2 fell from Resistance sales.

Uncharted 3 is bundled a lot more than this game, I love the hypocrites who praise UC3's sales but disregard Forza 3's success when really both games gained between 30-40% of their sales due to mass bundling. UC2 was mass bundled too, it would only have achieved 70-80% of it's current sales if it weren't for bundling. At the end of the day both Forza and Uncharted rely heavily on bundles, without them Uncharted would only be marginally bigger. The only 1st party exclusives this gen (HD consoles) to have sold over 5 million without the need for mass bundling are: GT5, GoW3, GeoW 1,2,3 and Halo 3,ODST, Reach, they're the games that deserve to be praised.
