Street Fighter V (PS4) > Opinions (63)

Mr Puggsly posted 15/04/2019, 02:47
SFV is a sales disaster because Capcom made a disappointing product with too many microtransactions. Some will argue you can unlock content for free, but its takes too long.

I do own it on PS4 but I find myself not enjoying due to long load times and offline modes are waste of time because they don't generate much points for unlocks.

I really don't care Xbox was ignored because the product is a mess. Maybe a next gen port with all content unlocked and faster loading could redeem this game.

Tekken 7 just released and it sold 5 times more on ps4 then xb1. SFV would have been the same. If SFV had an XB1 port it wouldn't have made it a success. That's so obvious now.

As a Street Fighter fan, I must say that I'm really disappointed with this game. The launch was terrible, and the additions are not helping either. The story mode was terrible.

I haven't booted this game in well maybe two months. I instead opted to complete MK9 and MKX with every character while this becomes a complete game.

I hear the story is coming July 1st, so I look forward to jumping back in.

And Star Wars is a colosal IP. And even with all its lack of content, it still had significantly more than SFV and supplemented itself much more expediently than SFV

@spacedelete I've said this a lot and I'm going to keep saying this until people like you get it: "numbers taken in a vacuum are not an accurate barometer for measure past, present, or future potential for success.". Street Fighter V was doomed the moment Capcom decided to shove it out 6+ months before it was truly ready. It didn't even have several fan favorite characters at launch for goodness sake!

Mr Puggsly posted 14/05/2016, 08:01
@spacedelete - I don't think the situation for the fighting genre is as grim as you make it. I mean MKX and Killer Instinct have done well. Tekken 7 should do good and I'm sure the next Injustice will have strong sales as well. SFV is not a reflection of the entire genre being in trouble.

spacedelete posted 14/05/2016, 07:09
Mr Puggsly thats exactly what i am saying that fighting games are niche and casuals only care about shooters and sports now so if street fighter can't manage to sell well how badly will other fighting games bomb in sales from now on?
Message | Report
Mr Puggsly posted 10/05/2016, 07:44
@spacedelete - Not a fair comparison, given the IP and genre. Also, SW:BF resembled a more complete product.
Message | Report
spacedelete posted 09/05/2016, 10:18
Danrik Star Wars Battlefront also had a lack of content but the casuals eat that up and sold at least 12 million in two months so that excuse doesn't hold up.

Rivals of Aether is popular as well, and has a competitive scene, Pokken too, even while being quirky.
Same goes for Killer Instinct, Marvel vs Capcom, Guilty Gear, etc... All these games have strong audiences, professional players, big sponsors, and they're all featured at EVO, which is one of the biggest esport event.

Dadrik posted 08/05/2016, 11:24
Stupid comment again. You obviously do not know what you're talking about.

Smash Bros has always been more a fighting game than a party game. It has one of the most active competitive scene, and majors are followed by hundreds of thousands, and its popularity keeps on increasing, for SSB Melee and SSB4. Even Mortal Kombat has a strong competitive scene.

SFV bombed because its launch was a disaster, and that's pretty much it.

You base a whole statement on ONE specific example without taking in account any of the factors that led this game to have a disappointing performance sales wise.

spacedelete posted 07/05/2016, 02:33
Dadrik not a stupid comment at all. Mortal Kombat and Smash bros are the exception and not the rule. people buy Mortal Kombat for the gore and blood and Smash bros is barely a fighting game as its more of a party game.

the days when traditional fighting games sold well is over. the fighting genre is the niche of the niche. even the Souls games are less niche than fighting games now.

bOOmoscone Evo isn't going to do anything. fighting games are just niche genre nowadays as no one buys them. same thing will happen with Tekken 7 which will bomb hard in sales.

Meh I think people are grossly overexaggerating how a flop it is. It will ship a million copies by march. It doesn't need a genius to know the game did not need a 50million dollars to make this game considering the content and advertisigng. People should wait for Evo before making assumptions. Underperforming doesn't make a game flop anyway.

~440,000 1st week to ~90,000 2nd week. In comparison: on Steam according to Steamspy, 1st week numbers were ~100,000 and 2nd week sales were ~18,000. Roughly an 80% drop when averaged. In comparison NUNS4 - a fighting game which released within 2 weeks of SFV - (using its 3rd week considering its releases were not globally aligned) experienced a drop of roughly 52%. For fun's sake although it is not really applicable, RoTR experinced a drop of 54%.
I'm kind of curious how the sales will look once all of the features have been released. Will they jump again? If not and this is any indication, this game looks a tad paraplegic when it comes to legs.

@StokeUp - No, hype for SFV was just down compared to its predecessor. SFV sold less than SFIV (PS3 only) in all regions in spite of a 1st party push.

I suspect a reason for that was people might be a little burned out on Street Fighter. Between four versions of Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom 3, SFxTekken, along with numerous rereleases of classic SF games. Perhaps that caused a decline.

Zero advertising in the uk has erupted in poor sales, such a shame because the game is awesome. All these incomplete comments are stupid. Online play is much better than some arcade feature which lasts around 30minutes depending how good you are.
They need to advetise this to get more sales, It could still sell well.

I thought it would sell more than MKX on PS4 week 1. Not that bad but it should have been better if it were a complete game. Word of mouth and reviews are very important in todays world of gaming. I will get this game when it's complete.

That's the risk of going exclusive. Less people care about this game. MKX had a bigger opening and it was multiplat.

SF IV came out about two year and 3/4 months after the PS3 launched, almost exactly the same amount of time between the PS4 launch and SFV launch.

Aligning the PS3's global launches the first week looks to be about 530k. I am hoping and expectant that the SFV will surpass these launch numbers.

I think that Capcom could have done a better job promoting the game and getting the story mode released day one.

Am expecting some impressive first week numbers from this game if its as good as the early previews indicate. SFIV did allot to not only revitalize Street Fighter but the fighting genre as a whole and expect SFV to hit the ground running.
