Nintendo says 11.06 as of september 30.

Totally amazing, it's a remake, now only about 900k under the sales of the original. Got to be one of the best selling remakes ever.

10.25 M with 20k in 2015! It's just a legendary game! the orignal (on N64) has nearly 12M, it's just incredible!

Yay! DS's 10th 10million-seller according to VGC. Such an accomplishment, it's the very first system to have managed that!

Incredibly successful re-release. It's about to sell 10m...AGAIN! Best part is...16+ years after its original release, it's STILL on store shelves and people are still buying it today. Only Nintendo... :D

Best selling remake of all-time I think. Nintendo has it at 10.68m. Combined with the original it sold almost 23m!

Legendary indeed.

10 million would be perfect to round out the DS's top 10 games, and perfect for the awesomeness that is this game!

st_muscat0 posted 19/04/2010, 02:59
@spurgeonryan this was more than just a simple port, you seem to be forgetting this added a VS mode, 30 extra stars, 3 new playable characters, 3 new power ups, around 4 new double star stages (stages to unlock characters and the beach one in the rec room) and around 32 mini games which are actually fairly good, even if they are single player only. So its more than just a simple port and would cost more than $1000 even if it wasn't, be serious here nothing is that cheap.

Having gone with a PS1 during that generation, this was the killer app that made me buy my DS the week it came out in 2004. Good times.

I think DS may last long enough for this game to reach 10 million sales. It is at 7.50m shipped through the end of March 2009, and shipped 1.38m in the year ending March 2009. Seeing that Nintendo's next handheld looks like a late 2010 proposal at the very earliest, and that DS should keep selling very well for 1-2 years after that, 10m seems like almost a lock.

This game is great and lives up to the original in every way. EXCEPT for controls. The D-pad is just not as precise as analog and you will find yourself frustrated many times during gameplay. However being able to play Mario 64 anywhere you travel outweighs this flaw.

This game is a must-have for major Mario fans. Being a remake of the most important game in 3D gaming history, it has lots to live up to. But it does a good job at it. Controls are a little difficult to adjust to (if only the DS had an analog nub), but having an additional 30 stars to collect gives anyone up for a challenge lots of new content to work with!
