Rayman Legends (WiiU) > Opinions (42)

It probably would have sold 800k or higher if it released on time and they did not announce other ports until after it released.

Well, it turned out selling quite good on Wii U. I wonder if it would have sold better if it stayed as an exclusive and launched in early 2013 as planned. Glad to see it sold this much!

actually this pikmin 3 and wonderful 101 being delyaed caused the drought
if they would have been on time
we would have
pikmin 3
rayman legends
wonderful 101
monster hunter 3 u(nintendo exclusive)
lego city undercover(nintendo exclusive)
as retail excluisves
wii u would probably not have been doing under 30k early last year if they had all those exclusives

@oniyide You forget that the drought(and everything else) was caused by this game being delayed and ported right?

If this had been exclusive to Wii U it would be above 1m now

@gammalad you think the Wii U version alone would have had 1mil sold by now? not sure about that considering DKCTF is no where near those sales and that is a much bigger franchise

Had this game launched when it was supposed to it would have been an easy million seller.

Across all platforms, it's actually sold 1.31 million. Not bad.

Dunban67, the right move would be release the damn thing in february and announce the ps360 versions a few months later. ubisoft chose the worst option.

RL has sold more copies on PS3 than Wii U to date and nearly as many on XB360 - they are still to release on XB1 and PS4- so there is no doubt they made the right move- no way RL wold have sold nearly 3 times more on the Wii U had it released in Feb- matter of fact, due to the low install base and sales history of the Wii U I feel sure it would not have sold as much on the Wii U in Feb as it has now- I would have much preferred it release in Feb as I bought he Wii U at launch- but I understood why they delayed the game- Nintendo could have gone to Ubisoft and worked something out to keep the Feb launch date but they did not - Nintendo has let those of us who purchased the Wii U at launch twist in the wind as it relates to games (both 1st and 3rd party)

Or lets go back even further and say the game should never have been exclusive in the first place. Just made it multiplat from the jump and it have it ready for Wii U launch window

Legendary_W posted 07/01/2014, 09:19
I believe delaying this game was a big mistake for Ubisoft and could even get partially blamed for Wii U's bad year. If the game had been released on february, it would have made the game drought seem smaller, the Wii U could've sold a few more consoles since it got a quality exclusive and the game could've had way more sales. Since GTA V, Pokemon and other major games got released in a close date, this was overlooked. Hell, Mandalore is right, they should've published it and MAYBE then think about the ports.

Mandalore76 posted 03/01/2014, 04:26
The game going multiplat isn't an issue. Leaving finished copies of the game sitting in a warehouse for 7 months when they could have been selling to Wii U owners in February and throughout the spring when there weren't a lot of big game releases to compete with is where Ubisoft shot themselves in the foot. Put the finished game out and release the ports later. Or, do what Ubi did and post a fiscal loss for the year.

This game would have flopped if it stayed a Wii U exclusive, Ubisoft was smart after Zombie U failed.

I am curious about Ubi s comments re 1 millon sales too (that was early November)
On another note- it looks like their decision to go multiplat was a good one- according to VGC Rayman Legends has sold at retail 176k on the Wii U, 145k on the Xbox 360 and 173k on PS3- It is possible that both xb360 and PS3 could surpass the Wii u in RL sales by year end- at the very least the 3 consoles will be close enough that it was well worth going multi plat-

This game deserves to sell well so I hope it continues on the current consoles and does well when released on the XB1 and PS4

I'm confused, Ubisoft just said that this game just sold over a million copies in all formats so either they are talking shit or Vgcharts just undertracked the hell out of this game.

Delaying the launch of the WiiU version was really a very, very, very dumb, lame decision from Ubisoft. Had this game been released on its original date - February - with all the hype around it at that time it would have easily sold more than 200 k for the platform. By now it could possibly match Lego City or ZombiU numbers. With Pikmin, LuigiU, WW (on WiiU) and Fifa, GTAV, Diablo III and so many great games out now, it was obvious that people would ignore Rayman. It´s a shame that people are ignoring this, but it´s all Ubisoft fault, not the gamers.

If they had released this in February it would have done the total sales for all platforms combined by now at least. A really daft decision. They should have released the Wii U SKU in February and then the PS3 and 360 SKUs when they did. They're going to lose money on this now.

Had this come out on February I totally would have gotten it, but their release bumped with Pikmin 3, W101, GTAV and Dragon's Crown, blame this on Ubi Soft. I'll get it in a month or so after I'm done with Wind Waker HD

Pre-order numbers were overstated because people pre-ordered this prior to the Wii U launch. When it was delayed and then became multiplatorm, many gave up on their pre-orders.

Wow, terrible US debut for the Wii U. But the other versions did worse! I bet if Ubisoft had released this in February, the Wii U sales would have been higher and they would have had less development costs because of the other systems. Bad move Ubi.

Sad though, as it is a great game that should be played by all platformer fans.

Still think delaying this 7 months was a good idea Ubisoft? Wii U sales in Europe actually FELL this week. And seeing as how four other Wii U games charted, including 3 that weren't out in February...
