Xbox 360 sales of Mass Effect 2 are about 3 mil. Unbelievable this version would hold up so well considering the circumstances. Its a shame Bioware went exclusive with Microsoft, they would've had much more sales if they went multiplatform from the beginning.

For those thinking of taking up this series, what compels me in this series is story, characters, setting and atmosphere. Gameplay is good, but really Uncharted and inFamous spoil standard TPS fare for gameplay for me. So if you can appreciate games whose non-gameply elements are really what makes for a good overall product then I recommend ME2 and 3. But if you are all about the gameplay then Mass Effect might not be for you.

Personally I love the games even though I'm so-so on the gameplay.

Really happy to see it hit 1 million in disc sales. I do wonder how the PSN sales went.

I always had confidence that it would crack 1 million on PS3, even when it had such a low start. Some retailers (well the one I spoke to) under ordered and sold through their first shipment very quickly. I do wish EA/Bioware would publish their PSN sales number. Definitely well over 1 million with PSN sales factored in. Year 1 ME3 sales will give us an idea of how big the PSN sales for ME2 were.

Still selling 9-10k/week. Not bad I'd say. I'd say it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to expect this to creep toward 1m sales by the time ME3 releases. I'd guess about .9m, which imo is pretty darn good for such a delayed release.

@ARTHURIUSS even if you havent played ME1, it dosent change the structure of the game. which is primarily based on recruitment quests. the story with the reapers dosent actully develop that far. and the 3rd person shooting is reptitive from mission to mission. imo its definitly one of the best games this gen, but not perfect. and even if its a lesser experience, i would not say its 9.5. however i think ME3 could be.
Message | Report
ARTHURIUSS posted 30/07/2011, 06:47
@binary solo - When you import a character from ME 1 there are a gazillion number of minor choices that you make in game 1 which affect a lot of quests/charcters/scenarios in ME2.The comic in the ps 3 does a good job of summarizing the events of ME1 and also lets you choose the major decisons but the minor choices are completely removed as in certain quests/characters and scenarios occur in ME2 solely based on your choices in ME1 and the ps3 version misses out on all those quests/char/scenarios.That is what makes mass effect 2 a 9.5 game and not importing a ME1 character is imo a lesser experience.

binary solo posted 30/07/2011, 01:51
No haven't played ME1. May eventually get it for PC once I get a PC capable of playing it.. Or if I pick up a cheap 360 once 720 is launched. Interesting some people have said that after playing ME2 I will really want to play ME1. But I think the motion comic did a good enough job of summarising the story in the first game that I don't feel like I'm missing much story-wise. Even though there's lots missing it gives enough background that most stuff in ME2 related to ME1 has context. So in that regard the interactive comic has done it's job as far as I'm concerned and it's only people who've played ME1 who complain.

Ea said the the PSN sales were in the double digits. So at least 10% of sales. This game is maintaining a healthy sales pace and I can see it easily reaching 500k by the time Mass Effect 3 launches. Probably considerable more given the most likely sales bump in the weeks prior to Mass Effect 3 launch.

If digital sales represent the bare minimum of 10% of sales being the lowest double digit percentage this game has sold 350000 copies on the PS3 minimum. Will probable see a modest bump in sales in run up to Mass Effect 3 leading me to believe the game can achieve sales of over 0.5 million easy lifetime sales.
