Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (X360) > Opinions (18)

I finally got around to playing and completing this game. The story wasn't particularly noteworthy, but the God of War style hack n' slash games was great. I mostly focused on the main quests and completed it in 23 hours.

I'd recommend it to people that enjoy games like Elder Scrolls and Fable.

Such a good game. I can't believe it didn't sell more units.

I agree with Pugs, the game can hit 2 million but it'll still be a flop because it failed to sell 2 million when it was $60 on retail, the most important time of a game's life. Just because they move units at $5-$20 doesn't mean it's gonna be profitable at the end of the day.

probably one of the best games this year. it deserved more. I think they tried to hard on the story and pushed the budget way higher then it needed to be.

@ Horrorfest - Most big budget MMOs fail or get lost in obscurity. Just like this game.

So I fail to see your point.

You don't know anything, most of the money they spent was on their MMO. This did not cost them 300 million.

If a movie makes a $100 million, but they spent $300 million making it, its a flop. Hence, this game is a flop.

It sucks all those people lost their jobs, but the studio shouldn't have taken a risk this big. They should have made games with modest budgets and work to develop a fanbase. That's how most studios get off the ground.

It is such a sad day to see 400+ people losing their jobs. Just shows how many copies a game has to sell these days just to break even. 38 Studios said they needed to sell 2X as much just break even, let alone to make any profit.

Mr Puggsly: Many people lost their jobs you know... It's safe to say this game sold almost 1.5 million or more with digital sales and shipped around 2 million and it can easily sell 2.5 million lifetime. How is that a flop?

Tried the demo and wasn't a big fan, it just felt a bit generic. Maybe I'll give it a shot when it's $20. EIther way this is a destined million seller on retail. Always glad to see new IPs get success.

so you spend $60 for a game that gets boring after 2 days... smart consumer is genius.
this is why games suck this gen, people settle for games that are over and done with in 3 days.
on the original xbox the shortest game i had was fable this was LAST gen and fable the lost chapters was worth a replay a year after i released.
all bioware has to do is make the game worth the purchase.

also, KoAR already beat ME1 and 2 in terms of dollar/fun which is all that matters in games.

@usrevenge I don't play Mass Effect for 50+ hours of game play I play it for the story I crated. KOAR story is generic at best and will not hold a candle to Mass Effect no matter how long it is.

the reviews for it are hit and miss. so far its great though, 25 hours in it or so and still haven't been to like half the map.
this is the first western RPG i haven't had money thrown at me making the game easy. in skyrim within 5 hours i had 20k gold. in this game 22 hours and i have 50k gold ( most expensive weapon/armor i have seen in shops is 800k)
I would say if you like the demo get it if you need a new game.. if you can wait do it as the price will drop when mass effect comes out.
so far the game lasted longer and then mass effect 1 and 2. which makes it a better deal over all. so what i suggest is picking this up when ME3 comes out and waiting for ME3 to drop to $20 or so, since the average person beats and completes that game in a week.

Wondering how this game fares. Played the demo for the Mass Effect bonus, which was a smart promotion by EA in getting a load RPG lovers to try it out. Demo was pretty good, need to see how it fares in post-release reviews.
