About 10 online stores sell it here in Sweden (NEW of course), so I guess it's possible.

theres no way this is still selling in 2013, there would be hardly any brand new copies around.

Fun, unique, beautiful. I'd put it ahead of all other current gen rpg's except Star Ocean 4 and Enchanted Arms.

Best classic JRPG this generation, just after Lost Odyssey and White Knight Chronicles.

grind grind boring and linear there is no world map you run from one scene to the next grinding out enemies no sense of world scope or adventure here dont buy it waste of money

The visuals and music are fantastic. However, it needs a lot of grinding with random monsters to beat the game. I got bored, although the combat system is pretty good.

I thought this game bombed badly, but then I saw it almost sold half the amount of the 360 version, which is still bad, but okay.

Godot posted 21/01/2009, 02:35
@Heavenly_King: even the sales of this game combined with that of the 360 version would be far from 500k. This game has been a total flop.
It wasn't a bad game though.

I bought a copy when it first came out, but now no stores have it. Was it released only in limited quantities in the U.S.?

Heavenly_King posted 15/01/2009, 04:22
This game should be around 300k including USA, and with the upcoming EU release it will hopefully reach 500k.

WKC's first day sales are nice...but nothing special. You have to take into account that there's almost 2 million more ps3's in Japan than 360's.

Also, consider the fact that Sony has always been known to have the "RPG" machine while Microsoft has the "Shooter" Machine. WKC probably won't break a million in Japan, and...well who knows how it will be received in America. Probably do well in Europe.

Since it's a PS3 rpg, 1up and Ign won't rip it to shreds like 360 rpgs...they seem to think that JRPG's shouldn't grace their precious shooter platform.

@nexzen

Sadly dude, I have to say that the PS3 isn't a JRPG powerhouse. This game wouldn't have done any better if released on the ps3 first rather than the 360. Just look at Valkyria Chronicles, which is only around 280k sales.

It looks like the JRPG gamers haven't upgraded consoles from their ps2's yet. While most JRPG gamers have bought a 360 (let's be honest, it is the new home of JRPGS now)...and some bought a PS3 thinking it would be king.

I personally have both systems, and I am honestly dissapointed in Sony for the lack of backwards compatability. Definitely considering the JRPG genre is dead on the ps3 atm, and the PS2 still better games than the PS3.

Bought this game with an amount of other games. Full price from Canada. Didn't want to wait until February for the EU release, this game is meant to be played around Christmas

This is too expensive, and it is out way later than the 360 version. It will not do as well as it could have.

I think the main problem is that, like Bioshock, this port is debuting at full price. Personally, I rather they didn't add the extra content (maybe as paid DLC later) and make it $40.

What a shame :(

Its a good(+) game. If my only console was ps3, and wanted a j-rpg, Eternal Sonata should be messias.

Aznbomb3r posted 21/10/2008, 08:23
isn't it obvious?
if the game came out on ps3 version it would've had 80,000-100,000 sales
but it came out on xbox360 first
and the small group of people who got it called it crap so the hype for ps3 died version died.

That was a joke, right? The most important place for this game is in Japan and it pretty much flopped. People said it would outdo the 360 version first week, it won't even beat it in lifetime sales.
Message | Report
nexzen posted 19/10/2008, 09:00
this game may get a lot of sales through the ps3, this will show the developers how important it is to make rpg's on ps3 first not 360.

Hopefully Eternal Sonata have some legs in Japan and outsell the 360 version.

As for worldwide it'll be tough but i can see the PS3 and 360 versions ending up pretty close.
