Liked it a lot more than the original. I find it hard to belive it sold in NA double the combine sales of EU and JPN.

Loved it. MGS3 is way better, of course, but I prefer this over the original MGS. Great remake. Must-buy for anyone who owns a Gamecube, or a Wii for that matter.

this remake lost all the emotions of the original and made Snake look like cliche'd action protoganist.
seriously he rode a rocket?!? wtf man?

4/10 . only because they ruined the original.

Completed the orignial four times and I love the game. I was absolutely stunned, when I saw the new cutscenes the first time. They fit perfectly and show what Snake is really capable of. Especially both battles with Gray Fox are staged superb, not to mention the fight with Rex. Don´t understand how it´s possible to dislike the cutscenes. But the first-person view was kind of awkward. I´m also not a big fan of the changed music.

My very first MGS..and so far the only one. It was ok but a bit overrated.

I didn't like it and I prefer the original to this despite the graphical and gameplay improvements. I feel that the makers completely failed with the cut-scenes being so heavily based on matching action movie stunts and this makes me never want to touch this game again as a fan of the MGS series. If every cut-scene didn't feel like Snake was like (insert action movie main character here) and instead tried to stick closer to the original game, I might have liked it more.

To further elaborate on my cut-scene gripe, I just felt like the move to making the cut-scenes feel like an action movie took things over the top too much. What's worse is that pretty much every cut-scene is pumped full of this crap. My room mate, his friend, and I are all big fans of the series and we thought that the cut-scenes in Twin Snakes were a laughably terrible. In fact, I think the only cool cut-scenes were the fights with Gray Fox just because he's a cyborg ninja. Essentially, I compare what's cool (Snake jumping as Ocelot shoots a bullet near his feet in the original) to what's over the top crap (Slow motion of Snake doing a backflip to dodge Ocelot's bullet shot at Snake's chest in Twin Snakes) and that's where my grounds for hating this game come from.

With my cut-scene hate out of the way, the other problems I had with the game were the voice acting and controls. It was cool that the original actors (almost all of them I believe) were brought back, but it seemed like they didn't have the same heart that they did with the original and I think there is a loss of the emotion that really drove the MGS on the PS1. Lastly with the controls, I feel that the Gamecube controller isn't really suited well with this game. Pressing Start and A or B felt a little awkward compared to something like Select and Start on a Playstation controller and using Z as the first person button didn't fit my hand that well. When normally holding a Gamecube controller, my fingers will wrap over the top of the controller and sit comfortably on the R and L buttons, but to hit the Z button properly (which is on the right side of it) I would have to curl my pointer finger back otherwise there wouldn't be enough pressure from pressing it from where my finger would normally be sitting and this would lead to many misses/accidental encounters throughout the game.

In the end, I guess it's decent for those who don't wish to take a blast from the past on the PS1. However, the Metal Gear Solid series fan in me dislikes this game because of the cut-scenes and the loss of emotion compared to the original game on the PS1.

It was released in the US; I have it. VGChartz just seems to be getting lazy with their sales charts, because several games are missing stats, as many new games don't have European sales.
