The controversial factor is that you are FORCED to kill innocents to proceed. This is something that GTA does not make you do, you can go through the entire GTA experience without ever killing an innocent. Infact if IW hadn't allowed you to skip this part of the game i imagine it would have been refused classification in many regions.
Don't get me wrong though, i personally have nothing against this. After all, it's just a game.
You're not forced to do anything. You are given the option to skip it. Even if you don't, you don't have to fire. You can just turn away.
You don't read to well do ya? Clearly i said you can skip this, and that is why the game didn't get banned in some regions. Whether you actually do any killing yourself there is still killing of innocent civilians that you are accompany to, and are not stopping. And IF you choose to play this part of the game, as most will, then you are forced to at very least witness the killing of innocent civillians.
Again, censors are upset because this encourages killing civillians in the game, as im sure most people who play the game will pop a couple off.

I know you said that. You contradicted yourself.
You are not forced to do anything. You can play through the campaign without shooting civilians in an airport. And I highly doubt that anyone will play this level in a game and think "Hey, I'm going to go shoot people in an airport". It's meant to be shocking, it is supposed to show the horrors of terrorism.

wow post is simply wow.
btw, Assalumu Alaikum.
OT: Its just a game with a story that's been done a million times in various other games/movies/tv shows/etc. Who cares? What innocent people never die in a war??
I would bet a million dollars that super conservative up there wouldn't care if this was a typical middle eastern placed game and the innocents were all talking Arabic.
Alaikum Salam, lucky some people find ignorance as a bliss.
Who exactly are outraged by this? The gamers, or the mass media? If it's the first then well... first time I see Gamers outraged by killing innocents (aside from GTA, anyone remember the option to blowing up that cruiseship in Splinter Cell Double Agent? You were actually working for terrorists 50% of the time.)
If its the second, well, then it's same old-same old. I stopped caring about the mass media coverage of games (especially by sensationalists) about the time games were connected to school-shootings.
Secretly I hoped that at some point we got to this point. I've always found it a shame that Call of Duty never let us play from a wehrmacht-perspective. As I see it, CoD glorifies war and fighting from a single persons perspective, how a soldier sees it without being to concerned for the war or "Why we fight". We just do. What is wrong with playing the enemy? We have been shooting Americans and British, at least in multiplayer since the days of Medal of Honour and BF1942. Plus, it seems to forego the heroïsm soldiers on both sides show. Here in Holland we actually have a statue for a wehrmacht soldier who saved two childeren from a burning barn when it was bombed by allies. I can imagine some Al-Quada soldier in Afghanistan doing the same.
Mind you, I don't glorify the idea of killing innocents the way terrorists do now in real life or the Germans went about the holocaust but in games, give us both sides just like a movie can do.
The Doctor will see you now
