Forums - Sales Discussion - Official Big 3 Quarterly/Annual Results for shipments to date & projections

Nintendo should report its results for the 12 months ending March 31, 2008 in less than eight hours. Microsoft will follow on April 24.

Sony's results, which must account for far more sectors/industries will arrive in May 2008.

Shipments through December 31, 2007 can be seen here http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=15170

Nintendo's historical software & hardware shipments can be seen here http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=23700

Notes:

Microsoft's fiscal year runs July 1 - June 30

Nintendo & Sony fiscal years run April 1 - March 31

Wii shipment projections (from Nintendo) for the 12 months ending 3.31.2008 were 14 million then 16.5 million then 17.5 million, now 18.5 million. PS3 shipment projections (from Sony) for the same period were 11 million and are currently 9.5 million. Microsoft, to my knowledge, did not make projections.

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all report shipments, i.e. the number of x product bought by stores worldwide.

My LTD (lifetime to date shipment) Expectations (units sold to stores from launch to 3/31/2008):

25 million Wiis shipped through 3/31/2008

18.85 million Xbox 360s shipped through 3/31/2008

12.75 million PS3s shipped through 3/31/2008

70.5 million DSs shipped through 3/31/2008

34 million PSPs shipped through 3/31/2008

Shipment projection expectations for next 12 months (through 3/31/2009)

~25-30 million Wiis

~ 10-15 million PS3s

~ 8-12 million Xbox 360s

~ 20-26 million DSs

~ 9-13 million PSPs

~ 5-9 million PS2s

Edit:

Lifetime to date figures though 3/31/2008 from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are (projections for year ending 3/31/09 in here):

- Wii - 24.45 million shipped (25 million)

- Xbox 360 - 19 million shipped

- PS3 - 12.81 milllion shipped (10 million)

Thank you for the heads up TheSource. Will you analyze each one separately, or do all 3 at once (or possibly both)?

What time is "about 8 hours from now"?

Or better yet, what timezone does the forum timestamps use, and what's the time difference between it and the Eastern Time Zone (so I can know for future reference)?

So it's basically when Nintendo announces if it will be increasing production?

yup very interesting!

Yeah, I've been waiting for this :)

Apart from the Wii figure, which is the one everyone wants to know (I think 25m is ballpark, and gives room for future rises) - the PS3 one interests me.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony forecast something ridiculous - a bit like last year - to help "hammer nails into the 360 PR coffin" (not that I think its going to die - not saying that at all...).

I'll even guess at a 20m PS3 shipped figure - 12-15m should be achievable really.

The PS3 has sold about 2.5m over the last 3 months - this should be sustainable, giving an easy 15m for the FY. If they can bring in another price cut for Xmas, this could hit 20m.

Sony's results aren't for a few weeks yet though unless the game division reports early or something

i can't wait for the officien announce

Regarding Nintendo, the most important thing will really be to see the new level of Wii production. Profit will be ridiculously high in any case.
