Report: Microsoft to Bring Xbox Live to Android and iPhone

A developer who has remained anonymous has told Business Insider, that Microsoft will releases apps for the iOS and Android that will allow users to play Xbox Live games. This comes to a blow to Microsoft's own Windows Phone 7, whose major selling point is that its the only platform where Xbox Live games are available to play.

"Xbox is a client of ours. There's no way they'll be ignoring those other mobile platforms,"  Said the developer. The developer says Microsoft doesn't want PSN to get a foothold in the iOS and Android markets.

There was a job posting at Microsoft that more or less confirmed this report, but it has been taken down. The job posting said, "as the team inside IEB (Interactive Entertainment Business) dedicated to mobile experiences, we work closely with console software team and Xbox LIVE services team to bring the latest and greatest gaming and entertainment experience to mobile platforms including Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile platforms."

Makes sense really. Sure it weakens a potential USP for windows mobile but in the current market I doubt MS would want to limit themselves to one platform. iOS and Android are so large right now to ignore them would be unwise.

Negative spin for the win... a blow to windows mobile!? A massive boost for LIVE and xbox more like.

I guess they think they can be more profitable if they go this route.
