PSN to Invest $20 Million in Exclusive Titles

by Stefanie Fogel, posted on 13 July 2011 / 1,046 Views

Following the success of titles such as Joe Danger, Flower, and the PixelJunk series, the PlayStation Network today announced a 3-year, $20 million investment plan to develop more PSN exclusive titles.

The investment includes support for PlayStation's network of first-party studios and the Sony Pub Fund, which matches the development budgets of digital games in return for PlayStation exclusivity.

"Under this investment, we’re committed to delivering titles that have innovative gameplay mechanics, vibrant visuals, interesting storylines and an artistic element to interactive entertainment that can only be found on PlayStation Network," said PSN Director of Marketing Brandon Stander.

Some of the games that are part of the 3-year deal include ambient space exploration game Eufloria, the colorfully adorable action game Okabu, and Papo & Yo, which won Best Puzzle Game at this year's E3 from both IGN and GamePro.

As long as they are quality exclusives, I like the idea.

Nice, very nice. Hopefully, we'll get more artistic experiences that separates themselves from the masses.

Sony should do their own SoA with this!

That's cool. I still haven't unlocked the full game of Joe Danger, but I will eventually. I'm already playing Super Stardust HD and Dead Nation, since I got those for FREE. The 360 still have a bunch of awesome XBL exclusives as well. It's win-win if you own both systems like me.

i wish MS would invest a billion to get some exclusive games... its the only thing that holds the 360 back now, we have 2 exclusive games worth noting, other then that 360 is better = wtb exclusives.

How can a console be better if in the pinnacle of what the console should provide is game and 360 as you said yourself is being held back by this? In what it's better?

they need a event for PSN titles were you have a heap of PSN titles released over a 1 month period and you pay a entry fee of 10 dollars and you get to play all of them. when the month is over you will have to buy them. But still that event would get lots if not millions of gamers in on it if the psn titles were good enough.
