Overview

As we head into the slow summer months, overall sales are down five percent week on week for both hardware and software. Year on year sales are even uglier as hardware is down across the board, ranging from 14,000 units for the Wii, all the way up to 221,000 units for the DS. With sales slowing down there are no hardware milestones this week. Software milestones this week: Zumba Fitness (Wii) passes the two million mark. Two games sold over 100,000, down from four last week, and the top 12 sold over 50,000, down from 18 last week.

Now this is kind of pissing me off with vgchartz. It's july and they still have put up the total worldwide sales of the 3DS in their graph bar. Come on, vgchartz get to work.

Ugh. 2011 has been a crap year so far. Less great games (27 90+'s on Metacritic by July 8 compared to 16 in 2011), sales of handhelds have plummeted even with the release of a new system, one console is essentially MIA, and then you have all those crap news stories like the PlayStation blackout, NoA refusing to localize games, 3DS phobia... bleh. Here's hoping that the rest of the year is less sucky.

Wow PS3 is holding strong, I think with Price cut and some great Software PS3 will lead this Holiday Season. I noticed that XBOX 360 and PS3 gap in US has dropped to only 12k a week. This will probably continue to shrink. When $50 price cut comes ( I don't think Sony has the guts to do $100 cut) PS3 sale should see a pretty nice increase, 180-200k a week worldwide.

Wii is on top, but only for another month or so.

360 will sadly drop below the 100k barrier soon. All in all, a rather disappointing year, which is pretty bad when you consider the all new Nintendo handheld with the best game of all time coming out this year...
