Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded to Release this Year - News

by Jake Weston , posted on 21 June 2011 / 8,645 Views

It looks like 2011 is the year of the Duke. With Duke Nukem Forever finally releasing this month after 12 years in development hell, it looks like the remake of Duke Nukem 3D will be getting released this fall.

According to Gameranx, developer Interceptor Entertainment is set to release Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded later this year. While the remake has a substantially less amount of development time than Forever's, it already looks like it has the advantage in terms of technology. Reloaded will be built using the Unreal 3 engine, and while Unreal 3 isn't state of the art by any means, it certainly beats out Forever's heavily modified Unreal 2.5.

Rather than being a straight remake of Duke Nukem 3D , Interceptor hopes to use the original as a jumping off point, updating the level design for modern gaming as well as add "new and exciting vehicular sequences, non-playable characters, scripted events and all-new interactive experiences."

Hopefully they won't change too much from the original, as one of the (many) criticisms of Duke Nukem Forever was that it adhered to too many modern shooter tropes. In any case, we will find out when the game releases later this year.

2011 marks the 15th anniversary since the release of Duke Nukem 3D , as well as the series' 20th anniversary. Maybe 15 years from now we can get a remake of Duke Nukem Forever that's actually, you know, good.

The official Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded site can be found here

"updating the level design for modern gaming as well as add "new and exciting vehicular sequences, non-playable characters, scripted events and all-new interactive experiences.""

so basically make it crap, umm new level design, so linear corridors. Vehicle sections being driving down slightly wider corridors and have stuff shoot at you, npc so will we get idiot ai teammates to follow you around and not shut the hell up. An scripted events and all new interactive experience. Well you run down the corridor and trigger an slow motion explosion or event and then an quick time event cut scene. All the crap of modern shooters being shoveled in.

I bet they will f this up.

"new and exciting vehicular sequences, non-playable characters, scripted events ", Geez I hope that is not what they are adding, these are part of the reason that I found DNF such a horrible game.

God dammit, just leave it alone and upgrade the graphics. Guess I'll stick with the original Duke with graphic mods.

I've been waiting for something like this! Been fighting up with all these win32 launchers that gives it some upgraded texttures and resolution (whidh isn't too bad really)....hope they don't change it too much though.

The art for this game already looks leagues better than the "Forever" art. Hail to the King!

God dammit, just leave it alone and upgrade the graphics. Was going to buy this, but now I'll just keep playing the original Duke 3D with graphic mods.
