Apple's Developer Conference to Clash with E3 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 28 March 2011 / 10,975 Views

Apple have unveiled, via a press release, that this year's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference will run at the same time as the E3 Conference.

Apple announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference will begin on June 6 2011 and run to June 10 2011 in San Francisco's Moscone West. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which typically runs for 3 days, will start from June 7 2011 at the LA Convention Center.

The press release states that the WWDC will host over 100 technical sessions presented by over 1,000 Apple engineers, showing off the latest in development techniques to make the most of iOS and Mac OS technologies.

The conference will also host the Apple Design Awards, which recognize iPad, iPhone and Mac apps that "demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design."

Apple's Senior Vice-President of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, explains that, “At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS."

“If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.”

It would be so awesome if like 10 people show up at Apple's conference. They could use the blow to the ego.

@viperlegendkiller, they already made a video game console- Apple Bandai Pippin... It sucked and was way too expensive. Bandai made 100,000 systems which only about 42,000 actually sold. I hope they try and make another one with the same results. Maybe they would learn their lesson that they don't belong in the video game industry. Although, I am sure now a bunch of Apple fanboys would pay $600 for a system that should only cost 200-300 just because it has the name Apple on it.

It's funny how people are just now realizing that Apple is arrogant.

Funny how i didn't know about the Ipad 2 until weeks after GDC :) I don't care about Apple and their products. However, if they get into the gaming industry (with a home console), I'd like to see what they can do to it.

I donĀ“t get this all competition of Apple with the video game industry. What do they have to gain from going against it?
The people that buy console/PC video games are not the same that buy Ipad/Iphone ones.

@IamAwsome
They are trying to compete, make no mistake.
What other reason to do find for them to put their conference at the same time as E3?

I'll laugh if no one goes there but apple freaks.

@famousringo

What about web developers and indie devs that may develop for BOTH iOS and consoles? I doubt Apple is trying to compete with anyone, but developers like that will have to choose which to go to.

The drama in these comments is hilarious.

E3 moved a week earlier this year than in 2010. WWDC is happening the same week as in 2010. Did you seriously expect that Apple should just reschedule their WWDC so they don't get in precious E3's way?

E3 can stand on its own. It's going to be full of videogame journalists while WWDC is going to be full of programmers. It isn't a sacred holiday that demands the whole world hold its breath and observe its passing.

Do they honestly expect anyone from the gaming media to go to their event, instead of E3? They act like they're so into gaming right now, but more, and more they're pulling these stunts. Where they hold they're own event, on same day as the true gaming events like GDC, or E3, just to take away from them. How is that good for gaming, in any way?

Apple is starting to piss me off a little...I mean I like them and all I have and imac that I bought this year but they starting to turn into dicks, boasting at how their products are so much better and how there's so many more games on the itouch and ipad even though half the games are shitty flash games,

they talk about quality but then they have all that garbage on the app store.

It's too bad Apple decided to schedule their conference in competition with E3. This will create conflict between Apple developers who want to innovate for Apple and create innovative games. Sad say for Apple fans. Myself included.

Is Apple thumbing its nose at the industry? They also did the iPad 2 announcement during GDC.
