David Hayter Talks Video Games, Snake, and Current Projects - News

I recently had a chance to have a nice chat with David Hayter, who along with being an actor and screenwriter is also widely known for his portrayals of Solid Snake and Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid series.

Hayter spoke about how it feels to be inseparable from the character of Snake, how he feels about people coming up to him and asking for a brief performance of the "Snake Voice," and his thoughts on some of his favorite video games. He was a blast to talk to and even indulged me in a personal quest to troll one of my best friends.

He is currently working on building up his new movie production company named Dark Hero Studios. The studio's first film, Wolves, is set to enter production sometime this summer.

You can download the audio here, or check out a streaming version below. If you want to hear stories about one of gaming's favorite voices playing Nuclear Strike with Nathan Fillion over some beers, I'd suggest you give it a listen.

The whole cut-scene/movie debate is all a matter of opinion. I myself love story-based games, which is one of the reasons why I love MGS so much. The only reason why this was problematic in the earlier games was due to the lack of a pause function.

@PullusPardus There's no hate in what I said. I love MGS and I think David Hayter is the ONLY voice of Snake. Hollywood would probably cast Mark Wahlberg as Snake. That's why I don't want a MGS movie, David Hayter should be the only voice of Snake. Oh and even the biggest MGS fan has to admit that the games have too many and too lengthy of cut-scenes. Even my favorite, the original had some that where just far too long. They're practically movies as it is.

Since MGS1 I've thought that they couldn't have chosen a better voice for snake.

@Pullus When I read the title and entered this news article I was going to look for someone smack talking and say exactly that.

Hayter is pretty cool. Although I think the MGS series friggin imploded with MGS 4, bleh.

@Kain Hayter's gonna Hayte

I hope they never make a MGS movie, because you know they'd never let David Hayter play Snake. Besides, the last MGS had enough cut-scenes for two movies.
