Did EA Just Reveal The Existence of Dead Space 3?

by Harry Monogenis, posted on 16 February 2011 / 2,870 Views

EA's CEO, John Riccitiello, has stated that he believes sales in the Dead Space series will get a massive boost with the arrival of Dead Space 3. Yes, he said Dead Space 3. Here, let me write that again with quote marks: "Dead Space 3."

John Riccitiello was speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, where he said that he doesn't think of the Dead Space series as part of the list of "strong, growing franchises" yet because he believes it's only once Dead Space 3 comes out that the horror series will really begin to receive a boost in sales.

"Right now we've got strong, growing franchises including Madden, FIFA... Need for Speed, Medal of Honor and Battlefield - I include them as one because we're unlikely to ship them in any one year at the same time," Riccitiello began.

"There's also Mass Effect... Dragon Age... and the one that's sort of not proven that's coming later in our fiscal year, Star Wars: The Old Republic. That excludes Dead Space because I think it will probably take Dead Space 3 before we get into that five million unit cadence versus say three, four."

Again, he said Dead Space 3

That's not really a surprise. I would however challenge the idea of going toward a yearly release like Assassin Creed is trying to do. Every other year seems like a much better idea to me...

@primogen18 I doubt that Dead Space will be the next COD. I may become a milked francihse, but not the next COD because EA knows how to innovate and make new IPs (as evidences be Dead Space's existence). If anything, this "Dead Space 3" is a hoax, won't come out for about 3-4 years, or is a 3DS/NGP spinoff (there is an iPhone game).

Well for anyone who's beaten Dead Space 2, it was already pretty obvious that there would be a Dead Space 3.

i guess he learned from releasing BF and MoH in the same year and wont do it again. so no MoH in 2011 i guess, only BF 3. we all know another NFS is coming this year and propably every year. FIFA and madden come every year too, and still fifa sells better and better ^^

If the quality remains there, if the studio remains free to innovate and take enough time... then yeah, I'm all for another Dead Space at some point in the future

I love Dead Space so I hope it hits 5 million. But I also love his quote about not releasing Madden FIFA Need for Speed Battlefield and Medal of Honor in the same year. I guess he wasn't paying attention last year.

welcome to another annual franchise that will slowly get run into the ground. I love Dead Space and Dead Space 2 is good, but not as good as the first IMO. Dead Space 3 will probably not be as good as the first 2 but still be playable, then dead space 4 for will be a rushed effort to get it out in a year or under after 3. I hope I am wrong though, I know it took a long time between 1 and 2 which is how I hope it STAYS.

I think the only thing that is slightly suprising is that they said something about it so soon. Is it really that suprising that a third installment is coming considering the second has sold over a million copies in two weeks? Easy cowboy! If this gets you that excited, I'd hate to see what a real suprising announcement will do to you. :)

non-gravity (on 16 February 2011)

I'd say this also mean they'll be making another Medal of Honor

Silver-Tiger (on 16 February 2011)

Well, no shit, I was expecting this anyway. Any series that get's successful get's at least three installments.

I agree with pariz. In an industry that thrives on sequels this is about as surprising as the sun reappearing after an eclipse. Elbows on the pulse lads !

How come this is surprising?
