Microsoft Bought "Kinect Halo" Website - Could It Possibly Be?

by Harry Monogenis, posted on 01 February 2011 / 2,506 Views

According to their WHOis profile, Microsoft had purchased an online domain titled "KinectHalo.com" back in June of last year. You thinking what I'm thinking?

To be exact, the URL was purchased by Microsoft on June 14th, 2010 -- and has been a secret ever since, well, until now that is. I'm pretty sure we're all thinking the same thing right about now, but I'm going to go ahead and ask the obvious; could this mean that a Halo title is currently in development by 343 Industries for Microsoft's motion-sensing device Kinect?

If you remember last month, Epic Games registered the Gears of War: Exile name and logo -- some are suggesting that Exile will be a Kinect spin-off while others say that it'll be a prequel. It's also been rumoured that 343 Industries is currently developing a Halo HD remake.

Ugh, so many rumours! You know what, why don't you tell us what you think of all of this? Could a Halo Kinect game ever work?

Why wouldn't MS do a Halo game for Kinect? Make a Halo game and the Halo Fans will buy it (some of them at least), and if they don't have Kinect they'll buy that too. There's a reason Halo Wars is the best selling RTS game on consoles, and being a good game is only half the reason, maybe not even that. Yes, it could also just be MS buying that domain name so someone looking to make a quick buck doesn't register it first then try to squeeze money from them.

has anyone thought that they be simply seeing Kinects popularity and down the road do not want to pay x amount of dollars for things like this. Microsoft would want to get it registered before they have to use it most likely. It would be cheaper that way.

well i can't imagine playing fps on kinect it sounds kinda of them for shooting games i'd rather go with move but for sports games i'd prefer kinect

"I'm pretty sure we're all thinking the same thing right about now" If you mean going "pew pew" with your hand shaped like a gun, and full-body tea-bagging, then yes ;-)

@BenVTrigger My exact thoughts. Maybe they will do a FPS+RTS. I'm a big fan of those, but maybe more expansive. Use Kinect for Strategy, and then go to the ground to give a side the upper hand. Always find that very desirable and ambitious. But wait... If they announce awesome games for Kinect, then what will happen to everyone talking about how Kinect is just for casual gamers? I will definitely buy a Kinect if this happens.

Goddbless (on 01 February 2011)

Well a domain name doesn't really mean much.

Curt_Suneson (on 01 February 2011)

I think if they combine the controller with kinect it could be cool.

BenVTrigger (on 01 February 2011)

My god if they release Halo Wars 2 with Kinect controls it would be one of the greatest things ever..... Make this happen MS and 343 Studios!!!!

Master Cheif is to be the Mario of MS. Halo Sports Mix confirmed.

@ Reasonable Um ... what you said.

As a Halo fanboy, the title sent a chill down my spine...

Microsoft always announces something big the year it's released. Last Year it was Kinect, the year before Forza 3, and before that Gears 2. Were just going to have to wait until E3, but I expect MS to pull something good to gain sales. BTW I've heard rumors of a Halo Chronology. Maybe this Halo Kinect game is an overview of the entire story arch into some unusual gamestyle.

maximrace (on 01 February 2011)

That's true, halo is their flagship game... They won't fuck it up. Look at the movie... They really want 1 but don't dare because they are afraid it's going to suck. So if they make a halo game (what they will) it is going to be top notch. Imagine a halo that does with kinect what halo CE has done with console shooters (Showing that it works!)

Kratos_36 (on 01 February 2011)

Well all companies just buy url's, trademarks, copyrights, patents and all that just to cover them in for when they need it. So I don't think this really says much.

All I know is that Kinect is pretty cool as far as this new "hands free, motion" gaming goes. I bought it over a Wii lol. However the launch games are "ok" I would like to see Microsoft sit down and actually stop staring down the Wii and just make some awesome games that use the tech. They have shown off that it will sell, it did. Now I just hope it gets serious support. Imagine an honestly good Halo title, Elder Scrolls V, A version of Street Fighter....I am sure you get the idea. Don't bombard us with 30 sports titles with avatar style graphics. I am impressed with Kinect. I also have to believe, that MS won't release some candy Halo game. Any game released with the Halo name on it, will still be a top notch game. I believe that, I have too. To not do it, would kill the 360.

Euphoria14 (on 01 February 2011)

Hybrid title people, hybrid title. I am shocked that people quickly forget that they made mention of hybrid title on the way and as of yet we have not seen one. MS would never make an on-rails Halo title. At least I hope so anyways. Expect this possibly at GDC or E3.

Carl2291 (on 01 February 2011)

I've always said that Kinect would be perfect for an Age of Empires game or a Halo Wars game. I fully expect Halo Wars 2 at E3.

Reasonable (on 01 February 2011)

Surely it's obvious that: 1) there will be a Halo Kinect title - MS would be stupid not to 2) there won't be a classic Halo FPS title with pure Kinect controls - it just wouldn't work Either Halo Wars 2, a new title like an on-rails FPS a'la Dead Space Extraction or something else again is the likely choice.

kitler53 (on 01 February 2011)

Finally -- the halo rail shooter i've always wanted!

D-Joe (on 01 February 2011)

Halo Wars 2 supoort Kinect-work

kiefer23 (on 01 February 2011)

Spend your time doing something more worthwhile 343. This is coming from a Kinect owner and a hardcore Halo fan.

Man, I hope not
